Power Supply for FX 'pedalboard'

Postby LeftyBass68 » 09 Oct 2018, 00:41

It's all about clutter down there.I need to know where things are so velcro is my friend.
After two months I'm pleased to report the Radial dials don't move unless I get tactile with them! Great investment in my sound.
Power bar underneath is too busy so I reach out to anyone with experience in dedicated multi outlet power supplies.
I hope this is a good choice.I'm new at USB powered things around my stage gear too, still use no soft synths,no laptop.

I did enough preliminary homework to spring for the closest to my needs I could find. Caline P1
Afraid I may have fallen one outlet short? It has only one of each 12V,15V,18V.....I need two @ 12V DC.Can they share the 1000ma?
Would hate to limit the 'moog' because of current! This unit seems robust in it's current side of things, and might be 'self limiting'
in which case I'm in the clear to try the 18V outlet on the 15V 'mixer'?
Might just be that 'all added up' the current draw will be reasonable for all four devices?

I need 12V DC @ 250ma for the Neo Ventilator
12V DC @ 1000ma for a Behringer Model D
15V DC @ 260ma for a Radial Key Largo mixer
9V DC @100ma for a Boss RE-20

Closest I could find is the Caline P1 which has 9,12,15,18 Volt DC outlets.
If I'm one short because of incorrect voltages I'd hate to make a costly mistake.
18V is 20% higher than 15V.Guess I better ask Radial first before I attach the Key Largo to 18V DC?

Made some shelves for the C2D and Stage88.....1/4" dowel and 13 ply fir.Moog sits about right?
Thank you MacGuyver! I have a Hammond M3 music rack to build the same in the making, for the 88.
Repurposed and beautiful, and inexpensive.Able to hold a lot of music......building LED lighting in as well.

Some of those pedal DC outlets might power LED lights without introducing noise?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Thanks,
It's a Hercules K410B stand.
The pedalboard is Ikea Gorm homemade.
Saves me hours of setup/striking with wiring on a snake.
The Ventilator is routed to outputs 3 on both Stages.
Output 4 on the Stage IIEX is a synth (mainly bass).
Love sharing the pianos between them.
Soloing synth mainly the compact....

I don't have a pedalboard for my synths, even if I have few of them. For the NL2X, I have 4 TC pedals that are all 9V so I daisy chain them with a One Spot power, no noise....
I have IKEA LEDs to get lights on all my keys and no noise but they are plugged into AC directly....
On my P08, there is the H9 Eventide, the power is also plugged into Ac directly....
BUT:
I have my guitar pedalboard, 20 pedals, all powered by the DC10 Ciosk, awesome power. Adaptable between 9V, 15V, 18V, no noise....on my bass pedalboard, I have a bit of him because I daisy chained 9 pedals, haven't spent yet for another DC10 (220 CAN$?).... But all my Radial pedals, like the Radail Bassbone Bass Preamp to the JDX DI etc, I use their power...
I also use the same One Spot to power the two Ocean Beach Drawbars in my C2....
So, not very practical because a lots of different plugs and stuff but works well for me.

By the way, Radial customer service is awesome, send an email, they we I'll reply quite fast and their advices are always great and spot on so, if they could have their Key Largo using 18V instead of 15V, they will tell you....

Hope I'm not pointing out the obvious, but I think the KL and the Vent have centre positive power supplies (like normal devices), but the Boss, coming from guitar world, probably has centre negative. So you need to make sure the 9V for the Boss is centre negative, and isolated from any centre positive 9V devices.

When I look at the Caline P1 pics, it's a centre negative power supply, designed for guitar hardware, and I guess the 9V supplies are not isolated from each other. But the other, switchable supplies are isolated. So my thinking is you would need to include a polarity change between the Caline outputs and any centre positive gear.

(Edit: Maybe that's what the red cables are in the Caline pics)

Count Fosco makes a good point. This issue is common to guitar players-Fuzz pedals and others are often center positive and most pedal power supplies (Boss etc) are center negative. Make sure you check this before you fry your gear. You need a center negative to center positive adapter similar to this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Voodoo-Lab ... SwwE5WZvwv

Eventide have a super handy power supply that does switchable 9/12/15/18V on each of 7 outputs and runs on world voltage. It's made custom for them by CIOKS and is built like a tank. I'm seriously considering one myself to run a few small synths (Micromonsta, etc.) plus my two H9s and a couple other bits and bobs. They use standard plugs (I think RCA style) to send power and you can get centre negative or centre positive cables for them (or make your own if you can solder a little bit). High power too - 4.5W PER OUTPUT which is really great.
