Dull Piano on NE6

Post by zeb1970 »

Hey.
I asked around Before on facebook regardning the piano-sounds.
Got a few good tips to what to use in a rock-band.

But. I still found the sound quit dull and dark. Tried to tweak the internal EQ. Better ofc. Now the problem is that its so loud in mid and so soft in high notes.
So i figure, the on board compressor. Well, have not tried in the band yet. Just in my own speaker. Sounds ok there.

What are your setting when you play rock piano. Patch?, EQ?, Compr?, other?

Which piano are you using? Have you tried the Bright Grand?

Try the Bright with the band, not just at home alone, then you'll see ;-)

I second the Bright Grand. It's pretty much the only piano I use when playing out with my bands. It cuts through the rest of the instruments better than the other pianos. That said, I never use it at home to practice, because it's too in-your-face. I prefer the Royal Grand for home/solo work. Also the Blue Suede upright.

zeb1970, just so we have a frame of reference... what keyboard(s) did you use previously, that was not dull and dark?

What amplification device (or powered speaker) are you using? Are you using one of them, or a pair in stereo?

Indeed: Bright Grand cuts through everything. Silver also does, but have more body. Amber also works well in a busy mix, and blends nicely. In my view, the Bright Grand is the closest you get to the typical Yamaha electric piano sound (when it comes to cutting through a mix).

Tanks for all the replys.

I used to play on a Roland FP2before the Nord. I dont know what patch that was. Always played on the 3:rd patch. Worked great.
With my Rock band we use the HK Actor and the Smooth-rock band we use HK Elements.

I now reahersed with the Actor in the band with Bright Piano and Compressor on. Big diffrence. The piano punched right trough. :)
I gigged on the Elements saturday, but i didnt hear that sound. Only monitor. But they said it sounded good.

So, I Think I found a solution with your help guys. Tnks alot :)
