Control Pedal Funtionality

Postby Ben Maxwell » 18 Sep 2018, 23:05

Hello. I am 14 and have just made the huge jump to buy myself a brand new Nord Electro 6d 73, and have been saving for what feels like years. I want to get a Control or volume pedal, but as i'm now bankrupt, I wondered if you could use a cheap pedal insted of the Yamaha FC-7 or the Roland EV-7.

Any help on this would be much appreciated as I do not want to waste any money.

Thanks again

The Roland EV-5 is available at around 60 pounds, I wouldn’t go for anything cheaper like the M-Audio EX-P. These don’t last very long typically since they are made really cheap, like mechanics made of plastics which can be broken quite easily. You will pay at least twice in the end, so better wait and save some money for this or look for a used one, which could be available at around half the price (that’s what I did)

I had to replace my Yamaha FC-7 last year.

I bought it new in 1990

Hi
The Yamaha FC7 seems to be the most popular for Nord owners.
I have 2 and they're great, well worth the money and it
stays put too being much heavier than the Roland.
As mentioned, I wouldn't go for anything cheaper as the build quality is not as good.
EV5 would do ok too. One on EBay for £40 plus a little postage but could get new for not a lot more.

Congrats with your new instrument; it will probably serve you faithfully for many years to come :-)

I have a couple of different pedals, and even if it's not the best, the Behringer FCV100 (I think that is the model number) actually works.

You can get this for around £17 in the UK, I think -- plus postage etc. Mine has been going steady for maybe 8+ years or so, and even if it squeaks a bit, it still works.

As @danrv mentioned, there is also the EV-5, but it's only a tad cheaper than the FC-7.

Ah yes, forgot about the Behringer. I did consider that before going for the FC7.
If it works well that would be cheaper option but it maybe worth reading up on compatibility and user experiences.

I've used the EV-5 for the past 5+ years with no issues.

The FC7 and EV-7 are a better build quality but I got mine as a gift and have been quite happy!

The Behringer FCV100 is a fine, inexpensive substitute for the Yamaha FC7. I use both, with my Nords and other keyboards.
