I plan to purchase an Electro 5D or 6D. I have a quick question before I do.
I typically play 2 keyboards simultaneously; B3 type patches on the top keyboard and piano type patches on the bottom. Can I use the Electro 5D or 6D for both by controlling the Nord’s organ sound engine via midi controller on top while simultaneously playing other patches directly on the Nord keyboard on the bottom?
Thanks for clarifying.

Re: MIDI control
My answers specific to a 5D.
I believe you could do this, but only using a "split", and would come with these caveats:

I believe you could do this, but only using a "split", and would come with these caveats:
- About one octave of the 5D's keys would still be dedicated to the "other" sound (using the highest split point)
- The split and configurations of the sound engines all get saved to a patch. So switching patches would switch what's playing on both keyboards. Not an issue if you save programs with this in mind and the split activated.
- you could only play two of the three sound engines at a time (which, for your case of B3 + piano, would be fine)
- You'd need to set the upper voice to be the one controlled via MIDI (I don't think lower one is controllable like that—or maybe vice versa, but same idea).
Someone else can correct me or add to this if my memory fails me...

Both boards let you trigger one sound (an organ, a piano, or a synth/sample) from an external controller. 5D lets you trigger one other sound from the Nord's own keys; 6D lets you trigger two other sounds from the Nord's own keys, I believe.

Nope, there's an option to dedicate one board to each sound.

Re: MIDI control
Sounds like either the 5D or 6D will work just fine for me. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the correction; I'd never done remote MIDI control before, so it's good to know that's possible.
