I have the Stage 3 connected to and controlling a Yamaha MO8. When I first turn the keyboards on and I play the NS3, I get sound out of the MO8 via midi, as expected. However, when I change the program on the NS3, not only am I not getting any more sound from the MO8 via the midi connection, but I am getting NO sound from the MO8, even if I play the MO8 keyboard! It's as if when you change a program on the NS3, it sends a midi message to the MO8 to mute itself.
I've tried every combination of settings possible (at least, I think I did). I've tried different midi cables, and I've tried it with 2 different MO8's, and the result is the same every time. However, I've done it with my NS2 and I have no such issue...works perfectly.
Am I missing something here? Any thoughts?

Re: Strange MIDI Issue
It sounds as if you have two MIDI cables connected. If you only want to play the NS3 from the MO8, you just need to connect the MIDI OUT of the MO8 to the MIDI IN of the NS3.
If you also have the NS3 MIDI OUT connected to the MIDI IN of the MO8, it's not impossible that the NS3 is sending a program change to the MO8, causing it to do something unexpected. You can also change the settings of the NS3 (in the menus) to change what it sends.

Re: Strange MIDI Issue
Actually, this is happening under the most simple OF midi setups: midi out from NS3, midi in to MO8. That's it. I've tried different cables, all with the same results.

Re: Strange MIDI Issue
you could try a midi filter and clearing whatever junk data the Nord is sending. at the very least to see if it works. you can try this through any interface and a DAW or use a hardware filter... though i'd try the DAW first just to double check.

Re: Strange MIDI Issue
If you are using the NS3 Global Channel to send MIDI to the MO, stop doing that and use the Extern section instead, so you can set the Global to USBx and only Extern MIDI to DIN.

What @maxpiano says!
I got your setup wrong (thought you were playing somehow the other way round), but did you check your system settings?
For instance, if you go to MIDI settings page 3 of 4, you can set the NS3 up to send and/or receive program and control change messages, for instance. Set it to receive to disable sending those. Also check in the Extern settings what you have set up for each panel in the programs you change between; there is an ability to send out a host of stuff on program load, for instance.

This is for the NS2 series only; the NS3 treats the USB and the DIN MIDI ports identically.

Ouch... I learned something new on the NS3 (and one more reason for keeping my NS2 some more time)

Re: Strange MIDI Issue
As it turns out, the issue was with the new 1.46 OS. It was suggested I roll back to 1.40, and it works fine now. Thanks to all who responded.

Re: Strange MIDI Issue
I have the same issue, my Roland XV 3080 will not respond after changing a preset on the NS 3. Strangely enough my Virus Polar DS behaves normally. I checked the Nord site but cannot find the previous 1.40 version. Any idea where I can find that one? Many thanks in advance, George
