Hi folks. I have a question. I use a Yamaha FC-7 pedal on my Nord Electro 5D 61. It is plugged into the control pedal jack on the back of the keyboard. When I go to the systems setting - control pedal gain , I change the setting but there is no difference. Id like the pedal to go from 50% to 100% volume instead of 10% to 100%. Also I hear folks talking about organ swell. Is that just another name for volume ?

Organ swell differs from volume in two ways... It never goes to zero, and there are tonal changes along with the volume changes.

I don't know your Yamaha pedal, but I use the korg xvp-20 and before that I played many years with the boss fv-300 L. Both pedals have a poti to adjust the minimum volume level which means that you would have the opportunity to set it as desired at the pedal, not the keyboard. If this is not possible with your Yamaha pedal, why not have a new one? Sunny regards from Germany

The FC-7 is not a great volume pedal because it does not have a capability of an adjustment pot (which allows you to set the minimum volume and have the full range going from that set point to maximum). It always goes from min to max. If you want adjustable, the ones listed above have an adjustment pot...the cheapest choice is probably a Roland EV-5, which I use in my mobile rig.

Just to clarify: the FC-7 can be adjusted, but it's the other way around - you can set an upper threshold by tightening/loosening a spring, which lowers the maximum volume at which you can leave the pedal. So you can go from 0 to your limit (say, 80) at which point you encounter a noticeable resistance. You can still go to 100, but if you take your foot off, it reverts back to 80. Kind of like a volume boost - I like it.

Of course, that doesn't help the OT. Just wanted to note that the FC-7 does have adjustment capabilities.

So does the FC-7 give you the ability to go from 0-100 & vice versa of course...

I just got a Korg EXP-2 to use with my Electro 6D- Can anyone explain why the pedal lets you go from 0-100 (for volume) on only the piano and sample synth, but not the organ?
It's odd to me that it would do this...

Check that you have the CTRLPED enabled (led on) in the organ section.

Hi Max- for sure I do- the pedal works, but the volume of the organ only gets down to about 20%- not fully 0..

Ah, that’s normal, that’s how the Swell of the Hammond organs works and the NE emulates the real thing 1:1 ; try for example with the Pipe or Vox emulations to see the difference
