Brad Mehldau 'Just call me nige' bass and pad - Lead A1
I'm trying to cover 'Just call me nige' by Mehliana (Brad Mehldau)
where Moog Little Phatty and Prophet 08 were used.
I created bass and pad(or lead) in split mode. Both sounds are not perfect, but bass is acceptable to me if low and high frequency are boosted in the external equalizer. Pad is far from perfect sound. Listening to the video, its sound is changing incrementally at 1~2 seconds from key-down. I tried everything I can do to imitate that sound, e.g. 'detune' with modenv, 'flanger', drive/modevn for LPF... but all they were not helpful. Any advice I can try to make it closer?
Thank you,
Jungkhun

I know very well this song and this guy, he was one of the reasons I decided to buy a Prophet 08 while at the same time a lot of people were putting S--t on this synth because of its DCO etc....Well, the "drift" that you could add between the two Oscillator on the P08 is great, I was never able to get it right with my NL2X so, I know what you mean but cannot be very helpful in that one, sorry...

When I said not very helpful I was thinking that some guys with a better knowledge in synths could get very close to it, I don't know but my usual attitude is that I buy a synth for its personality, which might transfer in other words in its own sound then, difficult to really copy it completely with another synth from another brand...this is usually the case with DSI, he designs his synth not to be the perfect ones or the ones with the hugest number of features but with a strong " musical instrument personality"....
Note that I also think that my NL2X has a real personality so, I might be biased....But this is why we have different synths, like different pianos...same instrument, different personality....

Sure, I agreed that each synth has its own personality that others may not copy easily. Previously I tried "detune" as osc config but it sounded weak. I tried detuning by changing 'pitch' osc config for one oscillator. It sounds much better to me, even though I don't know the reason of discrepancy.
