Good advice, so thanks! Still love my Focal CMS 50s for near-field monitoring duties. Thought they were a bit spendy at the time, but they delivered the goods, so no complaints. Since they're essentially flat, they make the Nord AP voices sound, well, amazing.

When it comes to reproducing Nord AP sounds, flat is good. More flat is more better. Simple enough.

Besides the LSR 305s, are any of the other monitors list above recommended for small gigs? and if not, what might be added to make them appropriate for a small acoustic band in a coffeehouse or outdoor patio setting, say 100 people? Thanks so much for your replies.

I wouldn't recommend home/studio monitors for small gigs. The devices we're discussing here are near-field, e.g. you're sitting at a desk or similar. They're not designed to project to an audience.

As Chuck said, near field studio monitors are not appropriate for live music gigs. Most guys here have ditched dedicated keyboard amps like the Roland for a pair of powered PA speakers. There are music retailers that often have 20% off sales. I bought my NE 5 at 25% off on a Black Friday type sale from this retailer which saved me $550 bucks. The QSC K8.2 get a lot of love here but are somewhat spendy at $1300 a pair less discount if you buy right somewhere a bit north of $1000. If there are budgetary considerations, This retailer has a pair of Yamaha DBR 10's at $800 and if you buy during their sales = $640 and those would be decent for a small club gig and far superior to a dedicated Roland keyboard amp of fairly similar cost. I have a pair of DBR 12's, and for the $800 on salw they cost me, are good for the money.

*** with an addition of a small mixer, you can run an acoustic guitar and other instruments, plus vocals through your powered speakers as well for your small club gig.

I'm very happy with my Nord monitors on my Stage Classic. I bought a $200 Yamaha keyboard subwoofer. Works great, just needed a different cable.

I love my pair of Focal Alpha 80's. I don't play Nord. I play Yamaha and Korg Synths. Very powerful, and if you are looking for the low end the Yamaha HS 7's or 8's lack this is your speaker. I have a subwoofer but most of the time just leave it off. I auditioned the Alpha 65's and the 80's are way more full range.
Another great choice would be Adam A7X. Very clean high end, but lacking low end of Focal 80's. Probably would want a subwoofer with them.
Smallest/least expensive speaker for live performance would be QSC CP-8 or similar Yamaha DBR. For a little more $$ QSC K8.2 will be a speaker you can gig with for years!

Adam Audio A3X and Sub7 subwoofer. With the A3X folded ribbon tweeters and the Sub7, I get the widest frequency range to cover all the sounds coming from my Stage 3 HA88 and other synths 32hz-50k. I also have a pair of IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitors I used previously that I’ve held on to since I like the sound from them so much and they come in handy for the bluetooth stuff. The Adams give me all the detail and clarity I need and really does justice to the Nord piano samples. If your room is as small as mine, the A3X will do fine. Otherwise they have the 5X and 7X for medium rooms.

Hi. I have an audio pro sw-5 subwoofer and thought I could use it with my Nord monitors (on a Piano 5) which have a sub out. However, I cannot get any output on the subwoofer. Any help would be appreciated.

Adam A7X next step up at double the $$$$
Focal Alpha80 has incredible bass, no subwoofer needed! KRK Rokit 8 also heavy bass.
Yamaha most clinical/flat more suitable for recording/mixing than instrument playback.
Kali IN8 also should be considered.
