Without the Nord :(

This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

I think you're getting messed up in the world of warranty repair. Yes, you'd like them to fix it and make it right without any cost to you, but ... it takes a while.

I've got a great keyboard tech 90 minutes from where I live. When one of my boards has a hiccup (not often to be sure), I take it up to him and ask him to fix it. He does, and for short money. He does upgrades as well :)

I get my board back in a few days. Worth the few hundred bucks to me.
I think I have gear issues ....

Sooo. Its only a few days away that gear 4 would have had to replace the instrument within their 60 day policy.

Scraping in at the final hour i had a call today to say it is fixed! hurrah. (I can bet they have been jumping up and down at Nord so they dont have to replace it lol)

Hopefully it will be back with me again next week... strangely enough, ive been getting rather attached to the more meaty HA action of the loan Piano 3 they have sent me....

The shipping is on them, and yes the loan piano was one of their B stock display items that they gave me free of charge due to the repair taking ages longer than expected, and a load of conflicting stories about its progress. .. . Took 6 weeks before they offered the loan though.

One piece of good news from all of this is that you got to spend some serious time with a weighted NP3 action. I, for one, prefer an AP action that fights back a bit. Gets me more into the music, brings out some amazing stuff on occasion.

I'm not going to say that the NP3 action is the best of the bunch, just that it's pretty good. For me, a decent AP action is absolutely essential to do what I do. If it was all unweighted stuff, I'd pretty much suck.

BTW, I have an instrument that has what's probably a near-ultimate action. A Bose 200 Klimt Edition. http://chucksblog.typepad.com/late_bloo ... orfer.html

Not going to get that on a portable board, but I do have standards :)

Yes Chuck indeed spending time with the NP3 was a bonus.

The HP action is that little bit lighter, quite floaty i find, but heavy enough to call 'weighted' for a board that is so portable.

I tested a Dexibell S1 that promised to be even better whilst at the music shop. 68 keys, A-E keyboard weighted. 8kgs. Perfect I thought, however it is false advertising, its not even semi weighted. Nord is still the best out there for a serious and compact light weighted piano action.

It has left me with some thoughts, my music scene has changed a lot recently and Ive been swapping around some equipment, the PA has just gone (was pointless keeping it sat there it as we always use the singers QSC's) Ive sold the CP4 as I needed some cash towards a new car and its sounds didnt inspire me at all.

I miss full weighted keys.. the NP3 made me realise that. Like you said Chuck you can really dig in when there is some weight, it is a much better playing experience.
I miss 88 keys when I dont have them. A short keyboard is ok for a jam night, but anything else I want 88 keys.
I never use organ, I have very little knowledge on the synth section. The Stage is handy for the A/B sound engines and its tweakability of the strings and pads, but other than that I basically use its pianos 95% of the time alone.

So... closing thoughts do I sell the NS2EX perhaps and get a NP3, or upcoming NP4.?? decisions decisions

Per Murphy's law, if you get rid of the Stage and get an NP*, you will run into a new musical situation where you need an organ sound, or something else the Stage provides.

You could also just add a NP3/NP4 to your collection of Nords. As I've said before, you can never have too many Nords :-)
