MIDI Organ, Piano, Synth Channel
The Nord Stage 2 had the ability to assign a different MIDI channel to the Organ, Piano and Synth. I cannot find the way to do that on the Stage 3, just a separate MIDI channel to Panel A and Panel B. Did this capability go away???

Re: MIDI Organ, Piano, Synth Channel
Unfortunately this has not (yet) been implemented in the Stage 3, and God knows if it ever will be...
The closest you get is if you use the Dual KB function, that can access ONE of the instruments on Panel B, independantly from how the internal keyboard is configured. Be aware though, that Dual KB (since v1.22) works differently then the user manual says.

Thanks. I'll have to give that a shot. I foolishly expected the transformation from a Stage 2 to a Stage 3 to be simple!

Why did they cut this feature ?!? Isn't this a major step backwards in MIDI flexibility?

Re: MIDI Organ, Piano, Synth Channel
I think the best guess I’ve read is that they probably ran into some issue with per-instrument MIDI channel support when they implemented the much requested seamless transition feature.

Re: MIDI Organ, Piano, Synth Channel
Has anyone seen or heard any indication from Nord that they will address this shortcoming? This feature was added fairly early in the Stage 2 release history, so I'm starting to think it won't happen.
I'm debating upgrading my Stage 2 to Stage 3, and this is the one issue that prevents me from pulling the trigger.

There are a few trade-offs going from the 2 to the 3. This was a big one for me, and to cover I'm now carrying an additional rack unit. Disappointed in the loss of versatility.

FYI, I sent an email to Nord support asking if the feature was being considered for a future release. They politely said they have a policy of not commenting on future releases. I'm in the software business and I understand. It was worth a shot.

What exactly does the rack unit do to compensate for the lack of MIDI instrument selectivity?

Just guessing: The NS2 could be used as a sound module that could play 6 different sounds - triggered on 6 different MIDI channels - independently. The NS3 can only receive signals on 2 different MIDI channels (assigned to the 2 layers A and B). To compensate for this, using an external module could be the solution.
