No, Roland has 64 total available factory sounds, Nord has way more, plus you can download more from their web site, plus you can create your own user samples. Roland also allows you to save only 16 of your own custom variations, Nord permits you to save your own variations into all 128 program locations.

jaws21014 wrote:and very realistic organs
For organ, Roland has 4 presets, Nord has a full Hammond drawbar-style organ section with access to every drawbar variation (and control over percussion, etc.), plus Vox and Farfisa emulations.

Some of the other advantages the Nord has over the Roland include replaceable piano sounds (you can even put the 2018 piano/EP sounds into the 2009 model) and real time effects controls. If these and its other advantages aren't really what you need and you'd rather have had those Roland features, that's no fault of Nord, you just bought the wrong board for your needs.

I used to own a ROLAND Rd170 VERY good features. Things it had that the NORD HP5 doesn't:
Ability to layer more than two sounds. Actually could have 16 at once, if I used a slave keyboard.
Ability to switch sounds and continue the prior sound. With the Nord as soon as I switch the first sound cuts out.
Custom Splits so that I could adjust at any point on the keyboard instead of standard middle C and a few others.
Way more sounds and very realistic organs and brass.
A rhythm beat generator with decent patterns.
And more.
What I do like about Nord:
Piano is decent. Nice Action. Light weight and the "LOOK FOLKS, I got a NORD" WOW factor. Kind of like a BMW... bring my wallet.
I have a 1 year old Nord HP5 for sale... contact me---negotiable price.

Well, sure, if you bought a Nord for the Wooow factor, for sure you are disappointed....Same thing with a BMW, if you don't like the way they drive, you think they are overpriced a swell....

I used to own a school bus - VERY good features. Things it had that the BMW doesn't:
Ability to seat 30 people. Actually could have 38 at once, if some stood up.
Ability to stop at bus stops. With the BMW I have to find a car park.
A little bell that passengers could ring to say they needed to get off.
Way more windows - each could open at the top.
A flag on the back that says "mind that child".
And more.
What I do like about BMW:
Engine is decent. Nice suspension. Light weight and the "LOOK FOLKS, I got a BMW" WOW factor. Kind of like a Nord... bring my wallet.

I may be interested in the BMW. Does the gear box feature seamless transitions?

You can’t really prefer the RD organs over the Nord ones. That’s just ridiculous.
