I found it amazing to hold a string chord with the sostenuto (middle) pedal, switch to a piano/ep/etc. patch, and play on top of the chord. The sustain pedal only affected the second timbre, so long as the sostenuto pedal was held. If you were careful, you could keep swapping between the two timbres seamlessly...

There was no complicated setup to accomplish this, it was baked into the OS. It wasn't even formally documented, it was more of an "Easter egg".

The Kurzweil R&D guys were very talented for the time being.

My Electro 3 also does not feel aged at all (it does look so, but that is what I did to it). In particular in live situations, concerning sound, I think you earn more by investing in a character amp or some nice vintage effects than by buying in the newer models. (Just bought an '78 jazz chorus 160, that was a good idea!) I do still hope for a nicer Wurlitzer sample, but that would profit E3 owners as well as E6 owners. With headphones on, however, I do hear it is a bit aged and of course, the interface has apparently improved since E3. Seamless transitions are also a big plus for the newest. Other than that I would still recommend the E3 to any serious live musician.

I have an EX88 stage (original) and it's great. The flashing leslie lights are great, as is the synth EQ. I had a minimoog D and the nord synth is thin compared to it, but with the bass turned right up, it's as meaty as the moog. I assume you have to use the main EQ on later boards to do this. I gather the action is nicer as well.

I'd get an additional stage, not replace mine.

Whoop, a JC 160, I didn't even know about it....I played keys in a JC120 and it was great at that time so, I could imagine about a JC160....But the weight?

It is pretty rare, sounds very similar to jc120, but looks cooler The vibrato and chorus are great, in particular with the power you get from 4 speakers (where the chorus is stereo crossed on the diagonal). It is indeed not the lightest, but it is rather undeep - if that is a word - which saves wood and it has wheels.

Ok, understand, I had never imagine that they have done a 4 speakers JC Amp....On a side note, if you are a guitarist, is it still worthy these days to invest in a JC, old JC120 or the new JC60 (still 2 speakers) to get that perfect Funk Clean sound? I don't play guitar (but I have 4, mainly used by my guitarist...) and a stereo setup with two Egnater Tweaker, happy with the clean sound but still wondering.....Maybe too much of a nostalgia of the past?

It's clearly a matter of taste. If you a like very robust clean guitar sound, go check it out. The cool thing is that with a little bit of the chorus and reverb built in this amp (which is the same in each JC, I believe), I kind of lose this urge for distortion that I normally experience. Not playing so much distortion is often good for the complete band sound; you leave more space for the drums and the base.

The JC 120/160 are still well regarded for their clean sounds. Almost no guitarist, including me, is very fond of the on board distortion, but that is what Overdrive pedals are for. The main drawback with the JC series amps is they are as heavy as an anvil, except that is a dis service to anvils. The Quilter amps have a good clean sound at (literally) 1/3 the weight.
