Viewing NS2EXB backup files
Greetings all,
Just taken the plunge and purchased a NS3.
Is there a way to view my NS2EX backup file WITHOUT having my keyboard present? I just want to see what sounds/samples I used for some programs, so I can then manually insert them into the new board.
My NS2EX is in a theatre 30 miles away, and I'm trying to avoid having to go there especially just for this. Just want to see a list of all programs and what I used.
Many thanks.
Nuno

Hi nunofeist,
Can you please share Pablo‘s hint with the forum? That is interesting maybe for many of us.
Thanks,
Eumel

Re: Viewing NS2EXB backup files
Hi Eumel,
Basically the format is a zip file, so extract it like any zip, and the folder structure appears.
Unfortunately I can’t go into micro detail as to what sounds create the programs, I just see the program name in the Nord format. Make sense?

The structure (after unzipping) is similar to this:
So you can extract separate parts from it if you like.

Re: Viewing NS2EXB backup files
Bart,
Thx for this - I have a question, might be a stupid one, but here goes:
Is it possible to extract the programs and reload them into the NS3, or are they not compatible?
Best

Re: Viewing NS2EXB backup files
As repeatedly answered on this forum, due to the different sound engines structure programs are NOT compatible across different Nord generations, even of the same model (Stage, Electro,..) and there are no utilities to adapt/convert them...nunofeist wrote:Bart,

Re: Viewing NS2EXB backup files
There is even no way to show the parameters/settings of programs without having the instrument available as I have been told by Nord’s support, which would help re-building a program on a newer version of the Stage as much as possible.
I have found that thread here which mentiones a way to load a program into a tool based on CTRLR, that should at least show the settings: nord-stage-forum-f3/a-patch-editor-for- ... html#p8381
Did anyone gave it a try and does it work?

Re: Viewing NS2EXB backup files
You cannot load “a Program” (meant as a .ns2p file) into CTRL, because it can only read a MIDI CC dump and show/modify related values (so all parameters not mapped to a MIDI CC are also excluded).Hervshahn wrote:There is even no way to show the parameters/settings of programs without having the instrument available as I have been told by Nord’s support, which would help re-building a program on a newer version of the Stage as much as possible.

And to do a MIDI CC dump you need... the original instrument available.

Re: Viewing NS2EXB backup files
Ah ok, seems as if I misunderstood it ... really a pity that there is no tool which is able to at least list all settings from a particular program of a NS and NS2 or whatever ....
