Wurly velocity sensitivity default too high

Post by profwacko »

Is there any way to reduce the keyboard velocity sensitivity?

I get the loudest and brightest sample output with far too light a touch.

Any thoughts?

The KBD touch button increases the velocity sensitivity from the default state to 3 even higher sensitivity levels.

I would like to set the velocity sensitivity to a LOWER level than the default, if this is possible.

Wow, okay...have you ever played a real Wurli? They’re MUCH lighter to the touch than acoustic pianos and lighter than most Rhodes.

I have to disagree here. I own a fully restored 1964 Wurly 140B & formally owned a 200A. From my experience neither were nowhere near as sensitive as the Nord. I, too, would like to find a way to decrease the "bite" on the Nord Wurly... but I have my doubts.

I wholly agree with IbMep. I had a 140B a long time ago and more recently played a 200A that belonged to a buddy of mine.

Both of these were far less sensitive as my current NE5D.

I found some old live recordings of me playing my old NE2 and it reminded me how much better it played than the NE5D I have now.

Maybe I should get a used NE2 just to play Wurly, Rhodes and Clavinet.

I've also posted this same question on Nord Support. I'll chime in with their replies.

Thanks, y'all.

The 4 velocity settings in the piano section are fine for me, an amateur player who never played a real A200, but I understand the need for more velocity control, this is a key point of expression, so I have the following remark / suggestion :
The Vox Continental has a "Dynamics" knob.
It gives a continuous velocity sensitivity setting.
It really multiplies the possibilities of using 1 sound (ap, ep, clay) in many circumstances.
Maybe Nord could add that kind of knob.
Or maybe Nord could add some options in the menus to change the 4 velocity settings characteristics (curves).

I got a reply from Pablo Mastodon stating basically that there is no way in the NE5 itself to lessen the velocity sensitivity.

Maybe I'll make a sample set from another Wurly-type VST and upload it to my NE5 in my copious free time. >8]

Thanks for the replies and information.

You won't get the multi-layer sampling that the Nord piano samples have if you do that.
