Stand: 3 tier with a small foot print ????
Stand: 3 tier with a small foot print ????
my keyboard player is wanting a new 3 tier stand with a small foot print that is affordable and well built, looking for something that will hold a Nord Electro 3, Korg SV1 and a Yamaha CS1x. Im a guitar player so I dont know anything about keyboard stands, I was looking at the DX-48B Pro Deltex Pro, K&M Spider Pro and APEX AX-48, but it looks like they are too small and Im not sure if they offer anything more than 2 tier. Can you buy extra tiers? the Korg is a fat keyboard so Im not sure if all 3 would fit.

You can add a 3rd tier on a spider Pro, pm C0hollis, he has one and is using it with "quite" heavy boards, piano 2 and stage compact 3 so, he will tell you if it's going to be strong enough....Hr might have the smaller model though, is it the Spider, I mean the no "Pro" one?..

Re: Stand: 3 tier with a small foot print ????
I have a silver spider pro with 2 tiers but you can add a third. It's plenty strong enough for holding heavy keyboards, although mine is quite old and does have a couple of stress fractures on the underside of the legs (maybe the farf 202R is to blame for that). I actually find it to have quite a significant footprint and presence on stage (the bass player reckons it looks too 80s or space age), so I use it at home and have a couple of less intrusive black 2 tier X-frame stands for rehearsals and gigs. I got them second hand and can't remember model numbers right now.

Pretty big footprint on that one, though.cgrafx wrote:standtastic 3-tier
My choice is the K&M 18880 with the 18881 stacker for the middle board and he 18882 stacker flipped backwards for the third. Very lightweight, too. How "affordable" it is depends on what country you're in... it's pricey in the U.S., better in the EU.

The first question I would ask is; Why is he/she using 3 keyboards on a gig? I would rethink my setup and downsize to 2 keyboards.

Same reason Rick Nielsen uses 87 guitars on one Cheap Trick gig - because you can

In part it would depend on the repertoire. But also, there's very little duplication in those boards. You might be able to come up with a 2-board rig that covers the same territory, but I think that would require purchasing at least one new board, so that's not necessarily a very cost-effective solution. The Yamaha is the only synth, the Nord is the only organ, the SV1 is the only one with a good action for piano (and also arguably has the best EP sounds). Plus neither the Nord nor the SV1 can really do splits, so without the pair, you'd be at a loss if you needed to play organ and piano at the same time, for example.kbrkr wrote:The first question I would ask is; Why is he/she using 3 keyboards on a gig? Actually the foot print is smaller than the keyboards you put on them and its incredibly stable and very quick to put up and take down. They are also very easy to modify.anotherscott wrote:Pretty big footprint on that one, though.cgrafx wrote:standtastic 3-tier

On my two tier I chopped the height so I can set my top keyboard over the back of the legs and I shortened the arms so it sits further back over the top of my lower keyboard.

Why couldn't the Nord Stage 3 fit into that rig? You could easily replace two boards with it.anotherscott wrote:In part it would depend on the repertoire. All I know is, if you are a gigging musician doing 100-200 gigs a year, optimizing equipment setup / break down / maintenance, and reducing opportunity for failure is high priority. If you are touring with roadies, then who cares. Heck, I'd be gigging with a B3, Yammy C2, Moog, Rhodes, Clavinet if I had roadies.
