Pedal functionality (Electro 5D 61)

Post by Acidizer »

Hi I have a Nord Electro 5D 61.

What is possible with a pedal? I understand the Nord Triple Pedal only (fully) works with the Stage.

So that sounds pointless for the Electro. Should I buy a single non-Nord pedal?

What functions can be controlled via pedal? Surely sustain/hold. What else? is volume possible too? if so do I need to configure it for one or the other, or is there a double pedal available? or could I use the Triple Pedal, and only use 2 of the pedals for sustain and volume?

and what can I control? only the organ? or string samples too? both at the same time or what?

Bit confused to say the least

Can anyone please clarify?

I was having great fun layering a string/pad with the organ, but since there is no hold/sustain button on the actual keyboard, I need a 3rd hand for the drawbars

:thanks:

Yes - sustain using a single pedal such as the Yamaha FC4. This pedal should be plugged into the "sustain pedal" input

Yes - volume (for sample synth), swell (for organ) using an expression pedal such as Roland EV-5. This pedal should be plugged into the "control pedal" input.

You could also use this to control the p-wah effect which can be a lot of fun.

There is also a rotor pedal input where you could use a switch type pedal to control the rotor effect.

I'm not sure about double pedals/pedal boards as I don't use them but hopefully this sets you off in the right direction.

You can also use the sustain pedal as rotor pedal by setting it up in the menu.
So You don't have to have a dedicated rotor pedal if You don't want to.

I don't have a NE5D, but usually this is in the System Menu, Sustain Pedal section. There MAY be two options on that page (select which setting is being edited with the softkeys/keys 1-2-3-4). If so, one will likely be type (auto, open, closed) and the other, maybe called func, may allow you to also set it to rotor hold or rotor toggle.

I think it's in the System menu, where You find Sustain pedal (or similar), where You can select "Sustain+Rotor" (or similar).
Then if You have Leslie on the sustain pedal controls the rotor, and if You have anything with sustain function the sustain pedal controls that.

(Layering organ and piano can easily make You seasick though as the same pedal will speed up rotor every time You sustain for the piano..;) Best for organ OR piano-ish playing.)

Also read the owners manual is a good idea!

Indeed -- page 16 has the details, where it says the System Menu (setting #9) is like this:
9 - SUSTAIN PEDAL MODE can be set to Sustain,
Sus + Rotor Hold or Sus + Rotor Toggle.
The two latter settings let you use ...
So I was incorrect above (it's done different in the newer generations, or at least on the stage, compared to the "older" ones -- the NE5 is apparently more similar to the NE3 than the NS3... and I even have both, duh!).
