STOP asking me to use Tapatalk.

Postby analogika » 23 Apr 2014, 23:16

I HATE Tapatalk. It is a confusing mess with no really useful (to me) overview of a discussion forum.

I prefer having a unified view across my Macs, the iPad and the iPhone. I do not wish to use Tapatalk.

I tap the little "x" in the banner that appears at the top of every page I visit on this forum.

I tap the little "x" again.

I visit the site again. I tap the littl...STOP f**** ASKING ME!!!

God made cookies for a reason, and that reason ain't *just* the Girl Scouts.

no one has ever asked me to use tapatalk -- i don't even know what that is...???

that was a rhetorical question, btw. in this case, I am happy to live in continued ignorance.

Usually it should disappear after you click once on the x. It does in my devices.
But I agree they do a bit too much advertising since several months of updates, will look to disable the popup.
Still no reason for swearing I think ;-)
But your point is well taken.
Best, Johannes

UPDATE: OK, I disables the notification, people can still easil use it, I personally find it quite useful, it can be found from within the app and via the link on the homepage but no more screen popup.

I think I love you. Thank you.

Re: the swearing —

It's been seven years since the introduction of iPhone, and people still don't understand how these things work:
—I get served sites that seem to think I'm surfing GPRS on a 2004 Nokia and give me stuff that looks like it was designed for WAP. There's a REASON iOS has a desktop-class browser.
—Even worse, I get served up mobile sites that castrate the site functionality, and when I opt out, they bounce me to the main page, and I have no idea how to find the article I meant to read.
—Even worse, the site won't respect my preference across visits. I get asked EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. whether I wouldn't like to view the wonderful mobile site somebody has designed specifically to break the experience of surfing their page.
—I get advertising scripts that bounce me clear out of the browser into the App Store to download a stupid f**** role-playing game. Recently, I had a page open in Pulse reader that made three separate attempts to do this.
—I get useless overlays for annoying non-functionality ("hey! do you love polls? vote here!") that completely block the site I'm trying to read and will make the experience utterly annoying. Every. Single. Time.
—And then almost every forum will insist that I use Tapatalk to browse it. Please don't. I've tried it; I don't like it. Look, I've tapped "No" once, even twice. The third time could generally be taken to mean "Leave me the f**** alone, or I'm deleting the bookmark."

I do most of my browsing on iOS these days, and the sum of these annoyances means that there are a number of sites I simply no longer visit if I can avoid them.

@Pablo: you get an oversized banner at the top when you browse from a phone/tablet, not from a computer browser.

It is irritating. For those who do not want to use it, the small screens get even smaller with that banner.
And this should not be depending on cookies. There should be an access point /link to those wanting to use tapatalk so it does not affect anybody else.
If I click the "x" to close the banner I get redirected me out of the Unread messages. Why? I did not want that...

I really appreciate this forum using TapaTalk - it's the way I view these forums on a daily basis, but I can understand your frustration of the pop up if you do not wish to use it.
