New MP3 Player on this forum
Dear all:
it has been some time now that I have been looking for a new version of the small MP3 Player plugin used throughout this website.
In particular due to the incompatibility of Flash and the iOS, and the general phasing out of Flash in general and moving to HTML5, at some point it will be inevitable. And while I don't have an iPad, it can definitively be fun and is a pity it does not work there.
Finally, after long discussions and trying out different solutions, I think to have found the best candidate. But while we ran tests on several machines, OS, and browser combinations, you can never anticipate all potential problems, so I would need your help in order to see if the new player will work for all (or at least 99%) users.
Therefore, I implemented the new player for now only on the start/portal site in the left column for the latest two uploaded patches.
Only if it turns out to work for everyone I would want to implement it throughout the forum, notable the samples and programs sections, the collections, and also the "My music" forum. And finally also retrospectively change all the existing posts.
So I would be very interested if you could just quickly reply to this thread indicating (a) if the new player works on your PC/Mobile/Tablet/whatever, if it works "correctly" (i.e., as the previous player, just playing back the sample), or if the mp3 file is being opened in your audio player or just downloaded. Secondly, I would also be interested in hearing your general opinion on design or whatever you think.
I also created a small poll cyou can fill out, also if you have nothing particular to say. You have two votes, one is considered for the functionality, one for your opinion. THANKS!
In any case I highly appreciate your feedback as changing the current player will in the end be almost irreversible (or at least a PITA squared).

Re: New MP3 Player on this forum
Well, my gf gave the MP3 player on the frontpage a try on her iPad and it works just fine. It works exactly the same as in my normal browser (Safari atm), so the arrow rotates CW 90 degrees, turns to a lighter shade of red and the sound starts playing.

Re: New MP3 Player on this forum
Hi,
thanks for the feedback. Safari seems indeed problematic, do you know which version you use? 5.12 or 5.13 or an earlier one?
I changed some settings, maybe can you test it again? I hope it still works on the iPad though, might be broken now.
Thanks for your help!!!

Re: New MP3 Player on this forum
Hi, Johannes-
Playing seems to work fine, but I do not see a way to pause it, and there is no progress bar like the old version. These are small problems on my Win7 machine at work. Does it depend on OS?

Weird. I was also using 5.1.7 (but on 10.7.4) and it worked for me. Guess there must be a difference between 5.1.7 for 10.6 and 10.7.tomzi wrote:....now it works! I`m using version 5.1.7
Just tested the iPad and that still works.

Re: New MP3 Player on this forum
Well pausing should work by just clickin once more or doenst it work?
I changed it to a different versionm, a bit bigger, but might break some compatibilities.
Indeed on MacOS with different OS and Safari versions there seem lots of issues with flash/html5 functionalities.
As for the seekbar etc, the problem is that to maximize compatibilities, it is not too practical to have all those things. Anyway, as the clips are typically rather short I hope it is OK. I'll keep investigating.
Thanks again!

Re: New MP3 Player on this forum
Firefox 9.01 under Win7 opens the mp3 file.
Safari 5.1.2 under Win7 opens the mp3 file.
Internet Explore 8.0.76 under Win7 opens the mp3 file.
I do not use these browers, hence my versions are a bit old, I don't update them.
Chrome 20.0.1132.57 m : works fine
Android 4.01 's browser (Nexus S) too
