is this website slow?

Postby dazzjazz » 04 May 2012, 01:10

Hi,

Does anyone else get errors when using this site? I sometimes get "cannot find page" error messages or simply really slow performance.

Works good on TapaTalk. Thanks to the owner who made this site TapaTalk compatible!

Hmm, sorry for that. Seems pretty snappy to me (in Europe though), latencies from the US are automatically longer since the server is in Germany.
The new tapatalk is pretty fast, very nice indeed. I think the UI eats up some CPU/db queries/RAM and bandwidth, so going directly to the forum index index.php speeds it up a bit.
Will continue to look into that. Errors, however, should only occur on occasions during peak times.
Cheers!

I live in the Netherlands, so I probably can't get any closer to Germany except by living there. However, I sometimes have issues where the forum does not respond or takes a long time. This happens to me both at home and at work.

As far as I can tell, the forum is running on shared hosting at speicheranbieter.de and the web server it is running on is sometimes not responding. This should be impacting just about any site running on that web server, not just this forum. This is something the hosted should troubleshoot and fix.

Hi, well I am constantly monitoring the site performance and on Saturday and last tuesday there were some above average load times.
As for the server, I changed the DNS in February for two weeks to run a version on a dedicated server and was quite disappointed by the results in terms of improvement even usien xcache and a generous server configuration. So for the moment I switched back, but will keep looking into that. For one thing, phpbb3 plus the addons that are used on this site plus the flash players and portal just require all their server resources plus load time. korgforums just to mention, is extremely fast, but is using plain phpbb2. On average, load time is 4.9sec (SE: 1.8Sec), so 95% of visitors should experience a loading time of the FRONT page of <9 seconds. Anyway, thanks for the comments and I promise I will continue to look into that to ensure a smooth user experience.
