Hi Guys,
This forum has always been particularly helpful to me, and I have a general question to ask:
When you have a keyboard rig set up, you have many volume options ie volume pot on the actual keyboard; volume pot on your mixing desk; volume pot on your monitor speaker/Headphones.
My question is: Which configuration will give you maximum clarity? ie high on the board , low on the desk, high on the heaphones etc etc
Many Thanks in advance,
Steve

Re: Best Strategy For Maximum Clarity?
Keyboard first is the general rule - i would say.
But: everything in the audio chain "can" change the sound. It can happen (for example), that there is a headphone-amplifier that adds a little high frequencies and you think that will make the sound more clear.
You should get the sound on the board right and than use following gain knobs "lesser".
But i would argue that many people are able to hear these minor differences at all.

Re: Best Strategy For Maximum Clarity?
I've read somewhere that for any unit, the correct volume output, at 0db, is with the Pot at max. I do that for my Stage 2, C2, D50 and Nord Lead 2 X. For the 2 pure Analog Synths, the P08 and the P12, I'm usually at 3/4, like 3 O'clock as I might sometimes saturate the output section, so, I adjust it between 3 O' Clock to max. All expanders are at max. Then I turn each channel in order to have Odb on the mixer. And finally, I adjust the volume of the power speaker (Yorkville Ps-10P) around 12, then, I still have a good reserve of power if guitarist is going crazy....I think this is the best way to get the gain/volume/sound in trying to have everything at Unity gain before the main volume on your speakers.
