Wave 2 Sample Editor

Two questions / suggestions:
- Is it possible to set the root note for a sample outside of it's key range? Sometimes the best sounds occur when your sample's root is an octave higher than it's key range (thus playing back an octave lower).

- I was surprised not to find a way to pan a sample to a position in the stereo field. Is there a way to do this? If not, there should be!

thanks,

brian

Not sure about the first question, but regarding the second I'd work at original sample level (.wav); use a software like Audacity (for example) or a DAW and transform it to stereo (if original is mono) then do the panning on it to generate a new .wav with the expected panning.

Hey, Brian-

You can easily pan the sample to any position after it is loaded into the Wave 2, no need to do it in the software-

I guess he meant how to make a per-note (or per sampled wave, in a sampleset) panning, for example what you do when creating a drumkit... but I may be wrong.

Yes, I was wondering if when creating a sample file with multiple samples (like a drumkit), is it possible to pan each sample in the Sample Editor. I saw the comment about doing the panning in your audio editor first. Yes, that is one solution, though more time consuming. I can't imagine it's possible to pan individual samples once they are moved over to the keyboard, unless its composed of only a single sample?

You have to consider that the sample playback capability on Nord keyboards (since the first Nord Wave) and related .nsmp format were originallu meant to be a way to extend the capabilities of a VA synth by create new waveforms for its "Oscillator", not the same concept of samplesets you find on a ROMpler or a workstation (or "synths" derived from them). Also the NSE is designed with that approach in mind, imo.

There is no need to connect your Wave2 to your computer in order to generate the nsmp3 file for your sample. So, all 92 keys shown in the software can be covered or attributed as root - outside that range it would be necessary to prepare your audiofile within Audacity, e.g. in order to get it streched up or down. As far as I see.
