I'm still waiting for an update for my W2! for example, being able to choose whether the sustain pedal affects this or that layer of sound. if I do a program with a bass on the left and a piano on the right, if I press the sustain pedal, both sounds are affected :-(

Yes, and this one of their newest products. Really is a shame-

It's really weird, I expected a lot more from Nord. Given the price at which it is sold and the competition from other brands, it would be logical for the support of Wave 2 to be much more serious.
Last year, there was no movement forward on the site, let's hope that they are preparing something really big.

Wave 2 is a wonderful tool, without a doubt, in combination with Yamaha Montage works wonders.
Since I'm not a sound designer, I personally miss more basic analog synth sounds. It would be great for Nord to think about that as well. Signature Artist Banks are great, but not very useful in practice.

You can make just about any analog sound you need with one or two layers on the Wave 2. I agree, the soundsets and presets in the machine are used for mostly sales purposes, but the VA engine is strong and can do just about anything if you know your way around a subtractive synth-

Programming is really not my strongest point, but with the help of this forum I found a solution with the so-called "lost" synth bank from the old Nord sample archive. There are many useful Brass, Bass, Lead samples from NL2x, 3, Roland, Korg ... very strange why it is not visible on the site.

I would like sound from the VA engine, for which I bought it, not just simples, but for now I use what is available, in the end the sound is good, Nord did a good job.

There is no doubt that the VA engine will get you a much more analog sound than a sample of an analog sound, but glad you are finding ways to use the capabilities of the instrument.

Still waiting for good things to happen… but my patience is being tested big time.

I’m hoping for some midi improvements that would bring some flexibility.
- midi thru
- sending PC messages not only on the global channel
- the option to set more than 1 layer on the same midi-channel

Some speculation/2 cents...

I don't know how limited the Nord Lead 4 was already in terms of processing power. But after being overshadowed by the A1, I strongly suspect something could have been done to improve the Lead 4 (shapeable/better wavetables, replace some FX effects, etc...). But I guess they predicted the costs of development wouldn't convert to more sales, so they didn't do it and discontinued it down the road.

The Nord Wave 2 has probably been a failure in sales (according to Thomann website) with a very timid launch. Aside from 1 or 2 pieces, their flagship synth is used as a sidekick to Stage 3/Electro on basically all the Nord sessions released in the past years (when it is present). I always tune in hoping to see the Nord Wave 2 being used to its full potential, just to see it being used 20 seconds out of a 5 minute video for a forgettable pad or lead sound.

Several minor things bother me a lot (like the lack of a mix wave section in the MULTI category, only saws mix per layer, really?) but I can live with that, as it does sounds beautiful in the end and a joy to program.

However, given the shy sales and presence, I foresee that the Nord Wave 2 will be discontinued before getting an update, even if it take years (like the Nord Lead 4).

They released the A1 shortly after the Lead 4, and it was immediately very popular, so they discontinued the Lead 4. The A1 was easier to program and had better effects. The Wave 2 is a big improvement on the A1, in my opinion. I doubt they would discontinue their only current synth without having a replacement.
