Hello, I just purchased a nord wave 2 off reverb. Came packaged well, everything is pristine, feels almost brand new.
But the mod wheel doesn't work.... AT ALL. I tried modulating many of the patches with "WHL" in the patch name, and also set up just a basic patch with filter cutoff modulation with the mod wheel, no response, it seems to do absolutely nothing.
Is their any settings I am overlooking here ? (I looked through all the system settings and didn't see anything related to the mod wheel), is their any explanation to this type of behaviour ?
Hard to believe its just fully broken and disconnected from the circuit board etc...
Any advice appreciated, thank you
- Dan
PS. is their a tech support forum I should post this message in ?
Also, does the OLED display show anything numerically when the mod wheel is being moved ?

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
Try this.
Power on your NW2
Find an empty preset slot (bank P should have some)
Turn filter FREQ fully down
Hold WHEEL modknob in the MORPH section.
While holding the WHEEL modknob down turn filter FREQ fully up.
Now use the ModWheel to hear if the filter FREQ opens op.
If nothing happens then i guess its a faulty unit.
The little MIDI led light next to the OLED display should flicker when using the ModWheel.

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
I tried a simple test like this before, and it didn't work,
But I just tried what you said using an empty bank... Damn its not looking good, the wheel does nothing, and I don't get any midi light activity or any indicator anywhere that the knob is moving.
I guess I'll contact nord now
Thanks for the help though!

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
If you bought it second hand by reverb I think you should contact them first. Did you get any kind of guarrantee that could cover the repair cost? If you contact clavia they will probably prompt you to your local dealer.
Another solution is to find an experienced technician in your town and let him check it. Removing the top cover is an easy task (you can also do it yourself with a screwdriver) and the MW mechanism is very easy to access and check connections. I did the same with my original wave sometime ago when the MW didn't stay in place. I bet there is not much difference between all nord keyboards in the way the chasis is assmblied.

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
Just for your information, the mod wheel on my Nord Wave 2 stopped working after six months. The synth never left my studio and received light use. It seems that the assembly failed. As I don't have mechanical chops I'm having it repaired once I'm fully vaccinated. I'm using the mod wheel from my Nord Stage3 Compact to control it and a foot pedal in the meantime. I mention all of this because possibly this is an issue with the Nord Wave 2. I've owned five or six Nords over the years and I never experienced Mod Wheel failure before. Anyway, best of luck getting it fixed. It's such an essential aspect of using the Nord Wave 2!

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
I was curious about the midi light blinking. My wave 2 doesn't do that when in stand alone mode. However I can get the midi light to blink when using the mod wheel if I have the wave2 send midi to my DAW and have the DAW send midi back to the wave 2. Doesn't seem like a midi indicator should be indicating midi messages when there are none.

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
Ok it was because i had a MIDI loop. My NW2 is also a master keyboard for my setup and recieves MIDI back from the other connections and thats why i saw MIDI flicker when using ModWheel.

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
Hey guys, after searching the forum and realizing its a very common problem, I just took the necessary screws out, opened up and sure enough the connector cable was loose and barely attached! I just pushed it in, closed it back up and it works fine now!
It must have came loose during shipping. A clampy/clicky style connector would fix this problem for nord in the future, if you guys are listening ?
Otherwise, totally fixed and was easy as heck to do.
Thank you to everyone that replied.

Re: Wave 2 Mod wheel not working
A loose connection is what I suspected when I read your post. Nice that you managed to fix it without having to send it away and pay extra money!
