single cycle waveforms... is it impossible?

Postby thom0720 » 23 Apr 2014, 07:50

hey guys

got these nice single cycle waveforms - they work great in my ocatrack

unfortunately the Sample Editor of Nord seems to not want to loop these single cycle waveforms decently
anyone had success with this ? do i miss something?

I remember some other people reporting a problem with this, but I do not know what is the minimum length.
You could try concatenating the waveform a few times in Audacity to make them longer. That might get round it.

actually this morning i gave it another go,
and i managed to fix it!
the things is you need to select Long Loop, and then put all parameters to zero.
i might upload and share a really nice oscillator library with you guys, since these Single Cycle Wave forms, sampled from all sorts of vintage oscillators, sound way more creamy and nice than the standard digital oscillators in the Wave :) a huge difference! sounding almost like a real analog synth now.

Excellent. Thanks for posting the solution.
I also look forward to see those oscillators ;)

Will see if I can add this to the FAQ too.

correction:
-choose long loop
-set the beginning of the loop to zero, the end to max
-no cross fading

that's all

Did you ever by chance get a library together with the Analog Single Osc patches? Very curious about this!

I'm curious about this too. Anyone have some single-cycle sample libraries available for the Wave?

I plan on attempting to create my own too, I just picked up a Wave a few days ago.
One question about this technique - is it hard to get things in tune with single-cycle waves? Or does the Nord software have some sort of auto tune feature available to make sure your "A" is 440 Hz for example?

You can adjust the pitch and the amplitude of the individual samples in the sample editor (I think it is in the last page). You need a tuner to know what frequency you are playing, though.

Maybey not only 1 cycle, but here are some Nord wave samples I have done, including different Prophet 6 OSC (with a soft detune), TETRA OSC, and some others patches (from G2, TETRA, PROPHET 6).

Sorry for my bad english ;)
