NW2 Midi soft thru

Post by missoundscape »

The midi soft thru on (my?) NW2 is not working. The specs say it should: https://www.nordkeyboards.com/products/ ... ifications

I'm sending midi data on two channels from my N2EX (midi out) to NW2 (midi in). I have NW2 (midi out) going to Jupiter XM (midi in).
The Jupiter XM is not recieving anything from the N2EX going thru NW2.
I've set (to check) the Jupiter Xm midi setting on Remote Kbd [midi in] (that would result in playing on every incoming midi channel), but still no sound when playing N2EX.

To make sure the cable or midi out from NW2 is not broken, the Jupiter plays fine if I play it from the NW2.
Global channel on NW2 is on, and not set to off.

I've tried a different setup, instead of the NW2 I used my MC707. With the MC707 the soft thru works fine.

So is it a bug? Is it not ment to work on the NW2?

Seems like they have either skipped or forgot it, or wrote it by an error in the specifications. I briefly went through the user manual, and it was not mentioned anywhere like on the other models. There use to be an setting for it in the Midi menu, at least on my NS and A1.

Maybe try to shoot them an email on their support page. It might be added in a future update, or not.

I am not familiar with the Wave 2, but if it behaves similarly to the Stage 3, the Global can only receive on one channel. It's either OFF altogether, or it is set to that specific channel you want to send to and receive from. It can't be just "ON". But you are saying you are sending on two separate channels from your N2EX (which I assume to mean NS2EX). Which are those two channels, and is the Global channel of the Wave 2 set to either one of those?

I just tested this and it appears you might have found a bug, or the specs are just incorrect.

I just used a single global midi channel (7) to send note data to the NW2 from my NS3, which always works fine. I then connected a drum module on the same channel to the Midi out of the NW2. When I played a note on the NW2, I could trigger sounds on the drum module. When played from the NS3, no midi data reached the drum module even though the midi data was indeed reaching the NW2 (midi led active). This was the same regardless of whether the NW2 was using the global channel or the layer channel. It is clear that there is no midi through on the NW2.

There is definitely no setting on the NW2 for midi through and, as you mentioned, no reference to it in the manual either.

It’s not stated in the manual indeed, but the specs on the website say: midi thru.
I have reported this. Maybe it’s not supported, but then they need to change the website.
I can work around it, but it would be nice to have.

Thx for checking DJ!

Any time!

I think they just copied and pasted from another product on the spec page.

Glad you reported it-
