Re: Nord A1 vs Nord Wave amplitude modulation capability
I might be missing something, but does the Wave 2's Ring Mod effect not do it for you?

Arturia offers a software version of the CS80 and it's included in their V collection. Perhaps you could get the sound you're looking for with software and then the sample editor might help. I haven't even tried the sample editor yet, but my Arturia CS80 sounds good. Their demo version is free to try.

I was right! (I was missing something). I got confused when the OP mentioned how limited the Wave 2 was compared to the Wave.

Which was in a completely different unrelated post

Nord themselves sampled the Yamaha CS80 ring mod in a patch called Resonator. This patch doesn't capture the effect very well and being a sample is only a snapshot. The thing about playing a ring mod patch is to use real time controllers to change the parameters and this can only be done through synthesis and not sampling. Maybe I should just buy another A1? But hopefully there is a ring mod fan on here who knows the Wave well to help me a little.

I tried that but on my Mac using Safari the load picture icon wishes to insert a url for the image. I also tried to upload to the Gallery section on this site and again despite it searching for my photo file then required a url to complete the upload. Of course this could be user error but I can't seem to get past the request for a url; I don't have any urls.

Re: Nord A1 vs Nord Wave amplitude modulation capability
Thats a good idea but I don't own the A1 any more. I was hoping that people would know the CS80 ring mod sound or at least that A1 owners would understand what the Amp Mod can do and sounds like. I can't find any A1 Amp Mod videos but in the CS50 video below from 2.35 this is the type of classic ring mod sound that an A1 can do quite easily. And there are a huge variety of these sorts of Ring Mod sounds that the A1 can do. But of course the Wave does not have amplitude modulation but maybe there is a way to fake this?
You could possibly achieve something similar with Frequency Modulation on the OSC MOD section instead (see page 24 in the manual.) The shape and amount levels can be assigned to a morph source (e.g pedal so you have your hands free for playing) and control them from there, but they can also be controled by an LFO.
However, you can control just the amplitude with an LFO (or 2), but the OSc Mod will give you more sonic possibilities, even better than just amplitude modulation I believe.
If you mess around a little bit with this I'm sure you can get prety close.
