I think I answered my own question. I downloaded the Nord Sample Editor 3 and loaded some stereo samples. When I played them back (in the editor), they maintained their stereo spread... not sure if the exported .nsmp3 files will be the same (as I don't have a Wave 2 to test them with). But it certainly seems promising.

Anyone know how Nord is doing their compression? I have 13mb of samples (in .wav format) that get compressed to 4.6mb as a .nsmp3 file. That's pretty impressive.

Why should they be any different?
About your other question, the nsmp (and npno) format seems to be closed, so no way to know how that works.

I can’t think of a reason... I’m just over-thinking and trying to avoid future disappointment. I guess in the back of my mind, summing stereo to mono would help account for 13+ mb of samples being reduced to 4.6 mb.

It's interesting to note that on Nord's website that the comparison page compares the Wave 2 to the Lead A1, not the Wave.

I really don't understand how some people like to complain when we have heard nothing from this new board yet. It's easy to make conclusions just by reading some specs, but how on earth can someone have a strong opinion before laying his hands on one? there is not even a demo video online....I thing we should focus on things we CAN do with this machine and not on those we can not, that where creativity comes from.

Yeah, not sure what all this keybed talk is about.

My complaint is one LFO and significant reduction in routing possibilities.

LFOs are significant in developing individuality to ones own sounds, pads, interesting textures, etc.

At least have additional LFOs in the architecture that can be accessed in the menu.

I fear that the creative output because of some of these reductions will be somewhat "canned" and lacking individuality between users.

Yeah, not sure what all this keybed talk is about.

The talk is about wanting a synth not another piano or organ. I have a stage 3, so I'm not looking for another stage style keyboard. I want something that extends and compliments what I already have. A semi-weighted waterfall keybed is exactly what I don't need.

Guys...waterfall keyboard just means the edges are round. It has nothing to do with the weights of the keys. Waterfall keys are nice for glissandi and other effects, they're not only for organ. Waterfall is not directly related to key action other than all keyboards with waterfall keys are on the lighter side.
Also the above list has a wide variety of keyboard responses. For example I love the Prophet6 action, but the MatrixBrute's action is awful. Subsequent37 is ok. None feel particularly similar to one another (nor does the Gaia which I have also owned.) Not all are equally responsive. This whole thing just doesn't make sense.

Its not just that the edges are round the key also extends all the way to the front of the key. This puts more weight/mass at the end of the key that has to be moved and by simple physics makes them slower.

I'm not claiming all synth actions are great or faster than waterfall actions, just that by design they are a non-traditional selection for a synth and I don't think I'd be going out on a limb expecting that Nord is using the same keybed that is in the Stage 3 Compact.

As I already stated, I don't need another stage style keyboard I already have one. All else being equal I'd much rather have a synth with a synth action.

I guess we won't know for sure yet but it could also be the Electro keyboard which is not exactly the same as the NS3C...I believe it is a bit lighter which would make sense in this context.

There are Waterfall boards that respond faster than some normal light ones of similar weight. All I'm saying is waterfall doesn't automatically equal bad. If it is the NS3C keyboard (I see you have one of these,) and you don't enjoy using that for synths, that's understandable...but is that specifically because it is a waterfall board? The main complaint I hear about that keyboard is the stiffness of it. This can allow for very rapid playing but can also require more work at the same time and it's not as smooth or comfortable to play. But that's the spring tension, no? Shouldn't have anything to do with the waterfall keys themselves.
