Or for something smaller, there are tiny Roland Boutique synths that have pitch and mod strips. And unlike the Electro 6, the Electro 5 lets you easily split the board so that you can play a Nord sound below a split point, and an external synth sound above (by itself or layered with a Nord sound).

Alternatively, there are also some non-Nord boards you could consider that are cheaper than a Stage 3, which will give you the 9-drawbar organ/leslie emulation, EP sounds, and more synth functions... Roland VR-09/VR-730, Vox Continental, and Yamaha YC61 could fit the bill (all still with a Nord-like approach of lots of dedicated controls for immediacy of operation)... but all also fall short of Nord in some ways as well.
