Layer sliders—cracked plastic?

Postby beepbeepjacob » 18 Nov 2020, 18:42

Hey everybody! My Wave 2 is nearly brand new like everyone else's, but just from normal use two of the black plastic caps that sit ontop of the layer volume/pan sliders are cracked down the middle and just fall off when adjusting. Anyone else have this issue? I've sent a message to Nord about being sent replacement parts, but don't know how that will pan out. Worst case scenario is i'll have to go via the warranty route, which seems tedious.

Be careful with your sliders! Anyone else have this problem yet?

Hi-

I have had mine since May and no issues at all. All layer knobs intact, no cracks. Until you get replacements, I would remove the caps, use a small bit of 5-minute epoxy to repair them and put them back on the posts.

Thanks for the suggestion dj. I'm pretty handy so that was a possible solution, with your seconding I'll do that and wait to hear back. Maybe the issue was the polymer on these specific caps, causing them to be more brittle? Either way, I'll do that and respond when I hear back from Nord!

Yeah, sounds like a bad batch of caps. If it was widespread, I think more users would have mentioned it. First I have heard here or on Gearslutz. You may be able to find some kind of replacement in the meantime as well:

I've got the same problem - one of the layer sliders came off in my hand a few days ago. Cracked down the middle.

Just received a wave today and 1 of the caps came off while unpacking it...Feels super solid otherwise, but those sliders don't inspire confidence!

Yeah, honestly it's the only part that isn't rock solid. If the sliders were topped with grippy rubber like the knobs?? Forget about it. That would be the life.

Definitely looks like a bad batch of caps for these sliders. I would report it to Nord Support with some pictures, they should make replacement parts available free and quickly-

I wonder if there's a 3rd party slider cap that would fit, might be something more substantial. At least in my case, I purchased used, so if I'd need to buy a new part I'd rather buy a heavier duty one.

I got lucky, I bought used but the seller was able to contact their store and get the receipt/warranty switched to me since it was a month old! Definitely worth a try if you're buying used from the first owner! It was the seller's idea, not mine, but i'm stealing it to use myself in the future!

The caps DJ posted a link to seem like a good shape, but maybe a bit bigger than the originals? Can't compare sizes in my imagination currently, and i'm replacing a door and I got imperial stuck in my head! Good shape, smaller is better! (for any future recommendations.

I've also got a ticket sent to the service department at nord, so I'll update when I hear back. Customer service just sent me over to another department
