Everything about the Nord Wave Synthesizer

Great Instrument!

Postby DJKeys » 06 Jun 2011, 06:18

OK, I have had extensive programming experience with Prophet-5, DX-7, OB-8, and many sample-playback based units from Roland, Korg, EMU, etc. and I have to say that my new Nord Wave is an amazing instrument. I have only had it about three days and I can say this:

1. Sound quality is great
2. Built-in effects are tremendous.
3. Ease of use is hard to believe, anyone with programming experience will feel comfortable right away.
4. Reminds me of the old days (1980)
5. Keybed is good (don't understand the complaints about this), has resistance and playability.
6. Untapped power of this keyboard is infinite.

This is the first instrument in a long time that I have had so much fun programming. Only have 6 of my own patches so far, but there is so much raw material to work with, I will be devoting a lot of time to this synth, and enjoying every minute.

Hello DJ,
will you be creating your own samples?
If so, I'm hoping you'll share some with us.
I'm torn between buying the Wave, or an NS2 "unfortunately both isn't an option" :(
The Wave is truly an awesome piece of kit.
Cheers, Hanon

Hi, Hanon-

I don't have extensive experience with creating multi-samples for distribution. But, I could come up with some patch dumps via NSM and post them when I get some I think are worth sharing.

I had purchased the NE 3 a short time ago, and almost wished I had waited to get the NS2. but The NE3 also has most of the capabilites of the stage, basic organ and piano sounds, just no synth. I thought about it and the NS2 only has one oscillator and I wanted the full-blown two osc synthesis capability I had with my first analog units. Since the NE3 also has the solid basic sounds, I went with the Wave and they make a great combination.

Subtractive Synthesis along with FM and samples, this thing is a monster!

Hi DJ,
If ever I had an issue with the Synth part of the Stage series of instruments, it would be the inability to have two different waveforms per voice, rather than just the one. For instance, the ability to have a noise chiff at the beginning of a flute, brass, or sax sound would open up a world of possibility s.

I'm leaning toward my next purchase being the Wave just because it would add more to my kit than swapping out my NSEx for a NS2.

Cheers, Hanon

I think you are making the right decision. I think the Nord Wave is one of the most powerful synthesizers I have ever used, despite the fact that it does not do the splits, layering and multi timbral operation of a ROMpler. The Roland V-Synth GT is nice, but more expensive, and the raw sound of the NW is superior in my opinion. I am sure others will disagree, though. I am a new guy to the Nord products. They are expensive, but really worth the money. The support has been excellent so far as well.

Take care, Hanon, thanks for the input-
