Vintage Instrument and Vintage Waveform packs for Nord!

Postby guybblue » 20 Feb 2014, 22:19

Hi folks!

We here at Rhythmic Robot Audio have put together five packs of samples in .NSMP Nord Sample Library format and we thought we'd let you know :P

The two Vintage Instrument Packs are intended for use in any Nord than can load .NSMP samples. Samples come from the mighty Korg Lambda, the wonderfully smooth Godwin string synth, the classic Logan String Melody II, some antique reed organs, and a dying B3. These are sounds you can play straight off, just like the ones on Nord's website.

The three Vintage Waveform Packs are a bit different. They're really intended for users of the Nord Wave and the Stage 2, both of which can put their samples to use within a synth engine. They are, basically, multisamples of actual synth waves – square, sine, sawtooth and so on – taken from some really unusual vintage gear: everything from Roland's flagship SH7 monosynth, through the ridiculously complicated Yamaha CS30, to various vintage valve signal generators dating back to the 1950s. There are even waves from a 1920s electrically-maintained tuning fork in here. The idea is that you use these in place of the Nord's Virtual Analogue waves (which we think are a bit clinical and cold-sounding) to get some serious vintage warmth and vibe into your patches. They really do make a big difference, which is why we've put some comparison audio on the website to show you how they sound

All the details, plus audio demos and some A / B comparisons of what a Nord sounds like with and without the Vintage Waveform Pack installed, can be found here:

A bit of background on us might be in order :D Rhythmic Robot started two years ago, sampling weird old stuff and turning it into instruments for the Kontakt soft sampler. (Sound on Sound magazine just called our stuff "impeccably sampled", which was nice. But that's enough blowing our own sampled trumpet.) A year ago we bought a Nord Stage 2 as our studio master keyboard, to replace the ageing Gem Promega 3 that had done such sterling service before that. (They have similar numbers of red LEDs, but that didn't at all influence our purchasing decision. Really.) And before you knew it, we were loading up samples into the Nord and having a whale of a time with them. We may be software developers, but at heart we love hardware and we love our Nord  If you happen to own Kontakt, EXS24 or Reason, feel free to browse the rest of the website too!

The samples in the five packs above were really created by us for us, initially. We're kind of dipping our toe in the water here – if enough people are interested, we'll do more of these. Feedback's appreciated! We have a Facebook page too – look for Rhythmic Robot. Um... that's it, really. We have to go and make more instruments now.

Happy music making!

That looks really exciting and I'll be happy to check that out, but you might confuse some folks by calling is "NSL" format instead of the more technically accurate .NSMP format.

The demos are lovely, too, but not sure that I understand why you have the same Waveform Pack Demo 1 linked in each of the three Waveform Pack locations on the website....?

Bless,

Pablo

Hi Pablo,

You're right about the NSL thing – I'll edit the post.

The demo is the same for all the three waveform packs because I just did a mass demo using waves from all the packs, rather than each individually. So some of the waves come from pack 1, some from pack 2, some from pack 3; and the patch demos at the end also include some of the Instrument pack waves too!

 Hi Rhythmic Robot Team,

where can I get the outstanding DX-7 Samples of DX Keys? They are only for Kontakt, but I want the nsmp format.
Thanks.

Hi Helmuth,
I'm really glad you like our DX Keys library! Sadly, though, we've stopped doing instruments in NSMP format. Although I love my Stage II (and am having serious upgrade lust to the Stage III), there was simply not enough interest in the NSMP sounds we offered. I think we had something like three customers, in total. So there won't be any more I'm afraid :-(
Apologies, and hope we can tempt you with the Kontakt stuff instead ;-)
Best wishes,
Prof

 Thanks for the fast reply Prof.
I have NS 2 and NS3 and I´m looking for DX-7 stuff.
Maybe you have one or two samples left?

Thanks
Helmuth

I'm afraid we never even converted these to NSMP format :-( Sorry!
Hope you're enjoying the NS3 though. I'm envious :-D

Hi Prof,

Is there any possibility to get the Vintage Waveform Pack? I've just discovered it.
Thanks,
Zsolt

Sorry, Zsolt, I'm afraid they're not available any more:
