D-5O Samples, Famous sounds
Hello All,
I've recently gotten my D-5O back from extended loan to a friend's project studio.
I'm going to post some of the "famous patches" samples for use in your NE3, Wave, and NS2 instruments.
The D-5O factory presets have been altered to remove any effects that can be produced by the Nord instruments.
These are all sampled from my instrument and not from any existing recordings, or any existing licensed sample sets.
These are freely shared for use by NordUserForum members for performance and recordings and license is hereby granted for said usage, but not to be sold as an individual sample, samples, or part of a sample collection.
I'll start with I-44 Pizzagogo as used in Enya's Orinoco Flow.
I-21 Digital Native Dance
I-38 Cathedral Organ
I-37 Soundtrack
I-15 Horn Section as used in "Paula Abdul's Straight Up"
There may be more coming throughout the week.
I-31 Breathy Chiffer
I-16 Living Calliope
I-55 Stereo Polysynth
I-61 Staccato Heaven
Baroque Strings
All demo s of the sounds are using the NE3 with reverb and Chor1 and a little EQ.
Cheers, Hanon

Hi Hanon,
well done! D-50 was one of my favourite Synthies. Why shouldn´t we play with the originals anymore?
I wish to have a big stage and to play with all my old "values" like DX-7 II FD, D-50, Roland JD-800, Siel Opera 6 ...
I´m sorry that I don´t have my Poly 800 anymore.
Keep sampling!

Hello Helmuth,
For the longest time I just wanted to be this guy,
I wonder if he'd ever taken a header into Carl Palmer's drums?
The poly 800 was a great little synth, especially with the Moog-slayer mod.
Cheers, Hanon

Re: Roland D-50 Samples, Famous sounds
I always wanted to see Geoff program the Fairlight in the middle of a set, maybe take a few hours to sample and map out a new waveform. :)
Mentioning the D-50 brings back some huge memories, I remember spending hour after hour at the local music store playing with one.. i loved the LCD on it..

Hi Bri,
I don't think Geoff used more than one or two sounds per instrument, hence so many instruments. I'd have loved to hear the grumbling that went on from his keyboard techs about having to set all of that up.
I've always been a big D-50 fan. I bought my first one in '87. Only one local music store had them in stock, the store owner had been trying to get me to work there, and I finally agreed to work a weekend so we could both try out the arrangement.
I had worked for a different music store ten years earlier, and still had a local reputation as being a very tech-savy keyboardist. I worked the weekend, made some great sales, and ended up using my employee discount to get a good price on the D-50.
I ended up not taking the sales job "the money just wasn't right".
The thing that caught me about the D-50 was the built in effects which was rare in '87.
Now it's a great old keyboard, the PG-1000 programmer is a MUST to get the most out of it though.
Cheers, Hanon

Re: Roland D-50 Samples, Famous sounds
what's funny is that my background is in digital stuff (circuits, programming, language, networks) and i'm probably the worst digital synth programmer ever.. give me knobs for everything and i'm good to go..

Re: Roland D-50 Samples, Famous sounds
Hey Hanon, great job!
I just got my Nord Stage 2 last weekend, and was anxiously thinking about getting some samples from my old-and-still-working D50 into the NS2. Fantastic to see that you already got some available!
Is there any possibility that you can also post the C-55 Stereo Polysynth sound from the D50? That was one that I used a lot in the past...
Thanks!!!

Re: Roland D-50 Samples, Famous sounds
Hi Hanon,
thank you for that picture. I'm still dreaming!
But I forgot to mention my old Roland JX-8P which I bought one year earlier than my DX7 II FD.
It had so nice warm string sounds and I remember the stab brass.
Cheers
Helmuth

Hello lvvo42,
Welcome to the forum!
I've added the Stereo Polysynth to the original post.
The sample size is a bit large due to the length of time to capture the filter sweep properly.
I'll be adding some Korg Wavestation samples in a new thread later in the week.
Cheers, Hanon
