"Disco" String sounds (ala BeeGees, Jamiroquai) NE3

Post by BeBoP777 »

Hey everyone,
Just got the Electro 3 in February 2011. Loving it. I play in a wedding/dance band (we play dance hits from the last 40 decades). We're working a lot of new tunes, one of which is "Canned Heat" by Jamiroquai. In this song there are a lot of lazy string lines, and string "hits" in the chorus (I should say it's a string "fall", actually). Are there any good patches out there for this? I'd prefer a patch that could play the lazy string lines (it should seem to have a portamento-type effect when you play a melody) as well as a string fall when the key is hit at maximum velocity. If that's not possible (or if it doesn't yet exist), i just need the string fall sound.

Now that I think about it, it's basically a string version of a brass section patch on the yamaha m08 or motif (can't remember what it's called, but when you hit the key at maximum velocity, it's like a brass hit with a fall).

Thanks!

BTW,
this is the song on youtube for those that don't have it:

Could you post a mp3 of the sounds you want.
It will be easier to get closer to your need.

Any chance I could take an ear at your disco strings ?
Need to play some Jamiroquai songs 1st June, would be happy to see if your RealStrings could match !

Thanks,

Fred

I see that this thread never saw any samples posted, so let me revive it.
Does anybody have a sample of the superb "disco strings fall" which feature in a quite a few Jamiroquai songs?
I think the sound increases in pitch a tiny bit while attacking and drops in pitch at a slower rate, but it seems quite tricky to do with that pitch stick thing.

good stuff. only thing is that the string fall is weird to use as a patch of its own because i like switching back and forth between fall and arco etc. maybe a right hand fall and left hand normal strings would be useful
