Worst Thing About Nord Stage 3...

Postby soultrane » 26 Oct 2019, 22:54

...is that it really cured my never ending craving to buy more keyboards!

The NS2 was great, but I always wanted another board to compliment it, whether a VA like the Virus, a real Analog like the Prophet 6, or a Sampler like the Motif XF

The NS3 is really not just a Stage Piano but a proper synth, imo, and covers all the bases.

As a VA, it sounds better (aka more analog and vintage) than a Virus. It's got a lot more voices than a P6, and the filters etc are better than the Motif.

Just listening to some of the banks on the Nord Library site, and you can get pretty wild with the NS3, ESPECIALLY when you consider the way you layer a piano, clav, or organ with the synth.

I guess the only thing I really need is a proper analog monosynth, but even then, there's so much good software that for the first time in a looooong time, I don't really have the urge to add anything to my setup!

sold all my boards to have only one machine. one size fits all -my ns3c. less weight, less stuff, huge sounds, editing on the fly without getting lost in menus, backpack playing... but it's individual.
Find all you need in your mind - if you take the time!

Four complaints about the NS3:

1. Weak clavinet sounds
2. Not enough onboard RAM to load *any* soundsets in the Nord library
3. Lack of Auto-Wah filter effect found in Electro 2
4. No one makes a case for the NS3HA88 that can fit in the backseat of my car.

disagree with #1 ... after having played the clavs on the Motif and my new Fantom, the Nord clav is like heaven. Maybe I've just spent enough time dialing it in - i dunno - but quite happy.

Yes Clavs are excellent once dialed in. I was able to obtain that "Phish" Page McConnell clav that was on the money after some tweaking.
Really my only complaint more sample memory. I did however get rid of many unused samples and now have plenty of space.

The key to a great Clav sound on the Nords is distortion.
