volume in Program dial- sound even when all 3 banks are OFF

Just bought first Nord- a Stage 3.

I selected a voice from the Program dial

;   I wanted to drop the synth volume down initially to emphasize piano voice, and then bring in pad strong for the Bridge but volume/ power off on Synth wouldn't stop it.   

Eventually I turned off the volume switches for all three banks [organ/ piano/ snth]... and yet I could still make noise as I played.  I was assuming that no notes would play since I understood that if the lights for each bank were off, then I wouldn't be able to play anything-  ie no lights meant that bank was mute/ dead

Q: Where is the noise coming from??

Panel B?

The NS3 is actually 2 of each sound engine. So even if you turn them all off on Panel A, Panel B can still be on. Look at the Panel AB lights right above middle C.
