Re: Using Stage 2 with Roland XV-5050
Did you reinstall Windows from scratch? You might be missing some chipset drivers.
The best thing to go to the manufacturer and see if they have any of that. If not find the motherboard model (you will need to open the box) and try to locate the manufacturer to see if they have available chipset drivers for downloading.
I also wonder about that (!) item in the device manager. Something is detected, but there seems to be no driver for it. Maybe it is interfering with something else that does not reveal your midi ports.
Did you try deleting it and re-detecting hardware? Then let windows connect to the net and find a driver.
The other option is to do the same with the USB, as neolithic suggested earlier, but maybe that ruins your current USB connection to the Nord. So I would do that only as a last resort.
Is there going to be a party when you get this sorted?

Re: Using Stage 2 with Roland XV-5050
Hello Mr G,
No, this Win-XP was not REFORMATTED (like my Win7 and Win8 was last month) and so has the ORIGINAL Windows SW on as purchased.
I have not tried sourcing the DRIVERS the item in DEVICE MANAGER (do you mean the one with the YELLOW QUESTION MARK Neolithic mentioned?). I am happy to try doing that of course.
I have not tried DELETING anything either as yet.
This is not my ONLY problem mate! I wish it was. Having massive issues with my Win8.1 since recently upgrading to Cubase 8. Only then might I consider a party
Much appreciated,
Paul

Hi NL,
Sounds great that you can play the XV5050 from your NORD via USB.
Best,
Paul
I really appreciate that as now I can see how the MIDI OX should look when all is well.neolithic wrote:As promised - here's a couple screenshots of my set up - I can play the XV-5050 from my Nord via MIDI-OX (using USB connection only- no MIDI interface needed, even though the iConnect 2+ appears in the screenshots). I can't think why yours is not showing up as a device.

Hello,
I am reviving an old thread to express thanks to Neolithic for the Unofficial Neolithic Driver Setup for the XV-5050. I run Win7 and the driver works perfectly! I appreciate your work. It is wonderful to extend the life of older gear! Thank you again!

Hi,
Cheers,

I now have Win_10 OS on PC. Not sure if these drivers would work on this platform?pantoum wrote:I am reviving an old thread to express thanks to Neolithic for the Unofficial Neolithic Driver Setup for the XV-5050. Re: Using Stage 2 with Roland XV-5050
I have an XV-5050.
I notice that you keep on talking about Patches.
I don't select XV-5050 Patches when playing live, but instead select XV-5050 "Performances" which I set up in the User bank of Performances.
When I call up a Performance, it already has all the settings I want to use live.
All the Performances I use in the User Bank are near each other, so I never have to switch to different Banks in the middle of a gig.
All I have to do is turn the XV-5050 big dial a small number of clicks.
For example, "US:57" is acoustic piano.
"US:56" is a split that enables me to play long notes on a strings patch with my left hand, while I play a Rhodes part with my right hand,
with the sustain pedal working only for the strings patch part. (for the song "You're No Good".)
"US:58" is the Rhodes EP sound.
"US:59" is the Organ sound (which does not get used much anymore, since I added the Electro 3 to my setup).
"US:60" is a 3-part split with clav at the low end, strings in the middle, and guitar at the top. (for the song "Life in the Fast Lane").
I have a few more, but you get the idea.
Each XV-5050 performance can use up to 16 parts, with each part using a different patch, with different volume, and even different transposition and octave shifts. I have also used certain Performance settings to reduce the vibrato, reverb, and sustain on certain parts, for cases where the patch had too much of those items. I have the volume levels set for all my Performances so that I always leave the volume dial on my XV-5050 at 12 Noon, with very few exceptions. That means I don't have to worry about changing the volume every time I select a new Performance.
I'm going to guess that, if you follow this "Performance" usage model that I suggest here, you probably will not have more than 10 performances you would need to use on your XV:5050. If so, this could simplify how you get your Stage 2 to tell your XV-5050 to call up the set of sounds you want for a given song, because all you would be doing while playing live is to get your XV-5050 to switch between various "Performances" in the User bank of Performances. You would never have to change to a different bank.
For every song I play in my covers band, I never leave the User Performance bank. Currently there are 11 Performances in my US bank of performances that I use during a gig, but 3 of them use weird overlayed splits that allow me to fill in horn section parts by pressing one key on a MIDI footpedal controller (while I play my sax at the same time), and a 4th is used for the flute solo on California Dreaming.
Let me know if you have any other questions on setting up Performances. I don't know anything about sending MIDI commands to call up a Performance within the US bank of Performances, but it sounds like Pablo's guidance can probably help you with that.

Re: Using Stage 2 with Roland XV-5050
I do the same with my Korg M3. I save everything I want to use as a combo (thats the same as setup or performance depending on keyboard) Some combos only use 1 program across the whole keyboard and others are splits and layers. I also save everything in a special bank so I easy can switch between combos without having to change bank.harmonizer wrote:I have an XV-5050.

Most of my combos in my M3 uses midi channel 1 as a global channel inside the m3 and because of that I use Midi channel 1 in the extern section. It works great so far
I guess this approach is valid for many keyboards and I wish that my Kurzweil had this great feature with External section. In fact it would be great with several External sections where each external section has it's own midi output jack. There are a lot of cool rack synths and modules out there you can buy and use
Current gear: Kurzweil PC3, Kurzweil PC3X, Kurzweil K2500R, Korg M3, Novation Ultranova, Alesis Micron, Hammond C3 w Leslie 122, Yamaha MX49, Korg Trident, Yamaha SK-20, Korg Poly-800.

Re: Using Stage 2 with Roland XV-5050
Hello guys.
I'm sorry...no reply but a question.
I'm struggling with a roland xv5050 (SM) and a ns2.
How can it happen that I get sound from my SM when all the voices (organ, piano and synth) are off and my EXTERN section is off also?
This unwanted sound from nowhere enters within all the other programs to.
It stops after demounting my midi connector which means that this unwanted sound realy is from my SM.
I think it is something in my MIDI menu because this affects all.
What is here the problem??

Hello Pablo.
I'm a newy on this forum and I am struggeling with a nord stage 2 and a xv5050 as well.
I followed your discussion above and did what you advised but...
Program change workd fine but when I switch off all sounds from the nord (piano, organ and synth) and I switch off the extern section I still get a sound from de xv5050 when I play my keyboard.
This sound is on all programs from my nord.
It stops when I demount the midi plug.
What is happening here??
I hope you can help this guy from Holland.

Re: Using Stage 2 with Roland XV-5050
Hi
The NS2 has 2 MIDI channels. One is Global, the other is the Extern: section.
Your XV might be listening to the Global channel. Set the global channel to something else and the Exten channel to the one you want the XV to listen to. Then make sure the XV is set to receive it.
