Using NORD STAGE 4 with external midi keyboard

I am referring to the fact, that the Aux KB channels do receive Note on / off, but no additional controller values like Modwheel or Aftertouch.

Just as stated in appendix II which list supported cc’s, nothing there about Midwheel or Aftertouch.

Almost full control of the panel is as early stated done via the global channel. Also no problem to control drawbars from external controller (Ocean Beach DB1) with lower B3 manual controlled as Aux KB channel. You can easily test/verify with Midi Wrench on iOS or MidiOx on PC.

Clearly the list in app II could be enhanced with information about the cc’s which is supported (received) in the other modes than on the global channel, some like drawbars are.

I have news about my case. By doing other tests, I was able to verify that if I use organ B, it is possible to control and receive from the external midi keyboard all the various controls of the drawbars, on/off vib/chorus, on/off percussion, rotary fast/slow, drive, etc. ... If instead I use organ A, I can control only fast/slow rotary and only 1 drawbar. In both cases the problem remains of the volume control which acts simultaneously in A and B. Nothing to do instead for the synth section, I still don't receive the midi controls assigned: filter freq, resonance, etc... and the usual problem of the volume control that acts in all three layers of the synth section instead of acting independently. Finally, still speaking of the use of the various aux kb with an external midi keyboard, I confirm the fact that it does not receive the picth bend, modwheel and aftertouch controls. This is definitely a bug that I have already reported to Nord

Regarding the communication sent directly to CLAVIA support, which concerns some problems encountered on the midi with aux kb, described in the previous comments, the contact person of the parent company informs me that they have noted the points I highlighted and that they will gradually resolve with the next OS release

Unless I'm missing something, It would also be nice if they published the values that initiate changes. For example, it's nice to know that cc 36 changes piano type but it would be even nicer to know what values represent each type, or if not that some mention that most values are bit selection, or sequential octal, or however they parse it out.

MW/PB and AT, they were never present in the MIDI CC list Appendix (also since PB and AT are not Control Changes but specific messages) even in previous models' manuals, but they are supported when using Dual KB in NS2/3 so it is correct to expect the same on NS4.

Of course AT and MW need to be morphed/assigned to something, on the Layer(s) assigned to Dual KB, to have any effect on the sound, otherwise they will be received but not used.

Until further documented you can find the cc values by monitoring whats sent on the global Channel when activating the relevant functions. Quite often these details are not documented by any manufacturer.

Unfortunately, this is true - even if documentation always used to be mandatory for full MIDI implementation according to the MIDI standards.

I know and I admit I'm a midi novice. I'm just saying it would make life easier then essentially reverse engineering the midi interface, especially since they must have it all documented in a service manual or engineering manual.
Having said that, the most efficient way to implement a change is via program change not individual parameters, which is likely how they expect users to use the interface.

Agree that it would be preferable to have it all documented, if not in the ordinary manual but in some kind of downloadable "white paper".

If I had an external dual manual controller (i.e. Crumar DMC-122) hooking up to the stage 4, would I be able to control both organ layers simultaneously using respective sets of manuals/drawbars? Or are there any caveats to this like how it is on the Electro 6D having to press the edit lower manual button to edit the 2nd set of drawbars?

You should be able to do that, according to NS4 manual, by using Layer MIDI Control as explained in the manual; you will have to set the MIDI Channels of NS4 Organ Layers to a specific value (not used by any other layer or Global) and then also the DMC upper/lower manuals accordingly, then not activate these layers on NS4 on any zone (to prevent playing them from NS4 keyboard and leave them only to MIDI).
