I'm glad I'm not alone.

I have already returned one Nord Stage 2ex 73 to Sweetwater because the USB stopped working, and it seems the replacement they've sent is no different. Weeks after having the replacement Nord, the USB has stopped working again. This is not a fluke. Both times I've tried other (shorter) USB cables, USB sockets, restarting both machines, updating the sound manager, closing all other programs, all with no results. It seems there are other people on this forum who have had this problem. I've experienced this problem twice, personally.

Any thoughts? I plan to reach out directly to Clavia. Having Sweetwater send me one defective keyboard after the other is getting me nowhere.

The point is, how to reset to Factory without USB working?
I have actually no back up, but I'm so worry about this USB stop, that the last thing that I worry right now is a back=up and I'm a programmer so, I SHOULD be worry!..

My version is 2.14
Sound Manager the last one (but never used)

I'm SAD to hear that! lol

Well I sent an email to Clavia and doesn't seems to work. They contact an authorized repair center here in Brazil and a guy from some NORD REVENDOR here, emails me to look and solved by my self, once I wasn't bought the keyboard from them.

I'm thinking to get an Eletronic Repair Place here to take a look on it, but completly scared of what could happens with they don't know how to fix it properly!
To be honest I would like to have the schematics and Solve by my self, I would be so much confident to do it then put it other people that I don't know.

There is a SMD circuit named ISP1181bdgg which controls the USB functions, and I think the problem is there.
I checked the USB socket and it is perfect, as well the fuses behind it too. But seems this SMD chip isn't, but it's just what my tecnician suppose to.
I don't know where can I find theses chip on internet, anyone???...

Just to update an information.

Before the problem start, I ran an USB 3.0 Reneseas UPDATE in my Dell vostro 3550, while USB cable was connected on NS2 port, and the keyboard was powered on.
I'm not sure if that causes the problem or not but it mights be pertinent to mention that.

This is an old thread, but how do you guys operate the USB port? You switch the keyboard on first, and then connect it to the PC (already ON I suppose), or do you connect the keyboard with everything powered off and then turn on both devices? In theory it should be safe to connect the USB while powered on, but could it be that some of those malfunctions are caused by such behaviour?

Looks like the Stage 3 (now) behaves like every other USB-device: you don't care about order of swithc-on or connect.

Well I'd think so as well but, depending on who you ask, you still nowadays get (sometimes conficting) advices on which order is the safest to connect and disconnect your USB devices by.

For instance, the other day I read on the manual of the Yamaha Reface series that not only you shouldn't connect the keyboard to your PC while it is switched on, but that you should also wait 6 seconds, after you power it off, before unplugging the USB from the PC [sic].

Hard to tell whether this is something that actually makes sense or if it's just them trying to warn against every possible thing just to stay on the safe side, malfunctioning-wise.

The Nord manual doesn't say anything about this, so either the keyboard doesn't care or the failure rate is so low anyway that it is as if it didn't care...

Hi,

It doesn't matter in what order you power it on or connect. Never had any issues with it.

As wikipedia.org says, USB is a standard that supports hot plugging.

You just have to keep in mind that this means plugging on. Unplugging shouldn't be done without precautions: Just disconnecting could provoke an electrical short circuit while tearing out if you don't log off the device before.

I don't have any idea if it's the master (PC) or the slave (Nord) that would suffer if something happens.

I'm sorry but your information is incorrect. There is no risk of provoking an electrical short when removing a USB device. It is important to eject USB devices that have open files systems on them to ensure any open files are closed before removing the device or you may end up with a corrupted file, but it will absolutely NOT cause a short circuit. Plugging in or unplugging a keyboard should never cause a problem. Just don't unplug your keyboard while you are transferring program or sample data to the keyboard.

"Hot-Plugging USB Devices

Hot-plugging a device means the device is added or removed without shutting down the operating system or powering off the system.

When you hot-plug a USB device, the device is immediately seen in the system's device hierarchy, as displayed in the prtconf command output. When you remove a USB device, the device is removed from the system's device hierarchy, unless the device is in use.

If the USB device is in use when it is removed, the hot-plug behavior is a little different. If a device is in use when it is unplugged, the device node remains, but the driver controlling this device stops all activity on the device. Any new I/O activity issued to this device is returned with an error."
