Hello there,
Wondering if anyone has had experience with this sustain issue?
I own a nord stage 3 compact and I am using it with a Yamaha cp300 as the controller keyboard. I was attempting the following set up:
Panel A : piano on the stage 3
Panel B: Rhodes on the external keyboard ( Yamaha cp 300)
The issue was that I wanted both the piano and the Rhodes to sustain when I use the pedal but it will only acknowledge the sustain on Panel A. ( the sustain pedal is plugged into the nord)
I attempted this with dual keyboard mode and initially had no luck, as most of the tutorials online indicate that the sustain pedal will only respond to panel A and not B . However , somehow I was able to create a program sound in dual keyboard mode that allowed me to sustain both sounds in panel A and Panel B simultaneously when pressing the sustain pedal. The problem is, I have no idea how I did that and I can’t seem to replicate it on other programs.
Does this sound like a bug issue to anyone? I would assume that with the ability to have a piano on one panel and a Rhodes on another external panel would allow for these sounds to sustain at the same time since they both require that function when played.

Re: Sustain pedal issue with dual keyboard mode
You can do that by not using DualKb mode and assigning a MIDI channel to the whole Panel B (which is probably what you did when you made it work).
Howewer I cannot see the "use case" of playing a Panel B Rhodes with another keyboard but sustaining it together with Panel A piano played on the NS.

Hey there,
thanks for the reply.
I actually do have the stage in Dual Keyboard mode with this function working... thats the strange thing. Here is a youtube link to a video I made showing what the controls look like when I make this work in Dual Keyboard mode.

Re: Sustain pedal issue with dual keyboard mode
The sustain pedal not works in dual mode with Dual Kbd Style as Panel. You must set Dual Kbd Style as Piano (or Organ or Synth) for working properly. (Over MIDI it works in Panel mode too.)

Re: Sustain pedal issue with dual keyboard mode
I just tried what you're trying to do with my set up. I have an NS3HP and an NS2 compact. I use the NS2 to play the organ sounds from the NS3 in dual KB mode. I turned on the sustain on the Organ and it sustained and so did the piano on Panel A, with the pedal inserted in the NS3. (In my case I have the organ section as my DK).
The issue could be your selection of the DK instrument. When you selected the Rhodes at the beginning of your video, if the DK instrument was the piano section, the four LEDs for the keyboard zones should have gone dark but all other LEDs in that section would have remained functional. In your video, the piano section LEDs don't go out when you select it indicating that you probably don't have the Piano instrument selected as the DK instrument.
Also, another issue may be your midi settings (make sure you're not sending on the same channel to Panel B and to the Dual Keyboard instrument, or the general midi input)
So take a look at you midi settings (should have a discreet midi channel from your Yamaha to the NS3 assigned to the DK section). Also, look at your DK settings to make sure your DK instrument is the Piano section on panel B.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Do you in the meantime know what is the architectural difference between the non-working and the working program?
Many thanks,

Re: Sustain pedal issue with dual keyboard mode
Hi,
Skuta Attila should have already given the answer to the thread. The manual says (p. 29):
"ABOUT PEDALS AND OTHER CONTROLS IN DUAL KB
When Dual Kbd Style is set to Organ, Piano or Synth the Nord Stage
3 pitch stick, and sustain pedal will affect the selected sound engine
according to how the respective panel controls are set. If SUSTPED and
PSTICK are turned off on the panel, these are only controlled by incoming
MIDI on the Dual KB channel.
In Panel mode the Nord Stage 3 pitch stick and sustain pedal never
have effect in Panel B regardless of panel settings.
The local Control Pedal, Modulation Wheel and Aftertouch do not impact
morphs assigned to sound engines that are in Dual KB mode.
MM A Swell pedal connected to the Nord Stage 3 will also affect an
externally played Organ in Dual KB mode. This is to accomodate
“dual manual” organ setups."
