Stage 4: Vibrato section with same bug as in Wave 2?

Post by Nordlicht »

As a new Wave 2 user I've quickly noticed that the vibrato function (with DLY1-3, WHL, AT) doesn't work the way it should when using several layers at the same time.
It doesn't sound like a proper vibrato but like buzzing bees or a fast chorus effect.
See this thread here: nord-wave-forum-f11/vibrato-sync-across ... 20241.html

To all Stage 4 users: Can someone of you please check and confirm whether this behavior also occurs on the NS4?

For a quick test just use/create one (INIT) layer with a SAW waveform with open filter, put vibrato on (e.g. with the wheel), duplicate this layer once or twice and play all layers together.

PS: On the Stage 3 the vibrato works fine when using the same sound on both slots A and B (just checked it).

Hallo

I've been able to confirm the issue on my Nord Stage 4, which is updated to the latest operating system version (1.14), and unfortunately, I've observed the same problem.
It appears that the LFO controlling the vibrato isn't synchronized across the three layers.

I plan to test it on the Nord Wave 2 as well to see if I get the same effect, but as you mentioned, it seems that the result will be similar.

Thanks for testing that. This issue has already been confirmed on the Wave 2 as well, it was first found there-

Thanks for your confirmation and "good" to know.

I've done more tests on my Wave 2:
- The "vibrato" function is always out of sync, no matter what I tried to do.
- When starting with an init sound and duplicating one layer several times also a vibrato using the LFO is out of sync!
- When syncing the LFO to the Master Clock (MST CLK on), all activated layers ARE in sync.
- When then turning MST CLK sync off again, all LFOs/layers still remain in sync (so this issue should quite be easy to fix).

I have just reported these issues as a specific (and IMO significant) bug to Clavia. Hopefully they will take care of it as it concerns two current models. And furthermore, vibrato works in the Stage 3 flawlessly.

thank you for your reply.

I tried with Nord Stage 4, it doesn't work, the LFOs don't sync

What about using the regular LFO on the NS4 for vibrato instead? On the NW2 you can usually sync them up across layers. Is this possible on the NS4?

Yes it's possible and at the moment the only way to have a synced vibrato over more than one layer. But you are sacrificing the LFO.
