Stage 4 Aftertouch

Hi everyone,
I am using sax sample on the stage 4 and enabling aftertouch for more reality.Question is there an adjustable setting for the aftertouch as I have to put really heavy pressure on the keys to trigger the effect.The sharps are even harder to press down than the naturals.Scared of breaking a key or is this normal.

Which keybed are you using: 88/73 hammer action or 73 waterfall (Compact)?

Well, there is no adjustable setting for the sensitivity of the aftertouch as far as I know. No matter what key action you have. But of course, you might adjust the amount of effect you are using.

In any case, I have a similar situation with my NS3 Compact. On the other side: You don't get aftertouch inadvertently.

Thinking now I might be able to point the AT to the sustain pedal,will check it out.

I was relieved to find this thread. I just got a Stage 4 HA73 and I was thinking, "I guess better keyboardists have remarkable finger strength."

I hope Nord folks consider this feedback in a firmware update.

As said in another thread, the NS4 HA 73 keybed’s aftertouch is practically unusable because it requires applying a tremendous force to activate the effect.

Lets hope for a firmware update to rectify this,as MrleoMadrid just posted,it is unusable in its present form.

Aftertouch on the NS4 is implemented with a pressure strip under the keybed, so it's unlikely a "software fix" is coming.

If the aftertouch strip material is too soft, it gets in the way of fast, hard playing as the keys will feel spongy.

If the strip is firm as it is on the NS4, it takes some finger pressure to fire it off. So AT implementation will always be a tradeoff.

I find the NS4 AT implementation quite usable. However, I've got fiercely strong piano hands.

I frequently use the NS4 AT on lead lines and similar -- never full chords. If anything, I have to take care to not play too hard and invoke unwanted AT.

On non Nord keyboards with softer AT strips, I find the AT unusable as it's always firing off.

Can I suggest practicing with the AT? Once you can find the trigger point by feel, it becomes quite useful

+1 same experience, the only truly unusable AT I have experienced across the years was Roland A880Pro one, all the others are a matter of finding the trigger point and developing the correct technique to add additional that pressure to your finger once ("after") the key has been fully depressed; force has to come from the body, not just the finger/hand (like in general in piano technique).

PS: however, in general, I personally find AT more natural for me to use on synth/waterfall keyboards than HA/HP
