Stage 3 Softlock for buttons/encoders

Postby iDemo » 08 Sep 2019, 22:33

Hi community ;-)

Maybe I‘m the only one with this issue, but possibly someone else has also experienced that when getting a bit passionate in ones performance it sometimes happens that you hit an edit knob/encoder/onoff/ etc unintentionally. That can be a bit annoying and disturbing. So why not introduce a surface soft lock function to avoid that kind of "accident". For instance by holding "shift" and then hitting the reverb button!

Good idea?

Ditto. My sloppy hands during passionate solos have lit up an unwanted button or 2.

Nothing worse than hitting that massive distorted organ you left in Live 3 when you were intending to play a nice gentle upper register EP chord.

Happens to me in song mode! Sometimes when going back from song patch 2-3-4 or 5 buttons and returning to the 1button. I'll hit the live mode button! Some sort of lock even with this issue I have would be nice.... It happened to me this past weekend....

It used to happen with the transpose button for me occasionally on the Stage 2 — though I only ever use it on "Superstition" if it's played in a key other than Ebm.

On the Stage 3, they've thankfully moved it to the top of the panel — where I've had an iPad accidentally trigger it (during rehearsal, though).

All in all this is a catch-22...
Here you have a keyboard where you can change anything on the fly, for which I assume you chose it in the first place.
Yet you don't want that exact same functionality when you "misbehave".

I'd like to see that request to Clavia

...well, seems to be an issue! What I‘d like to see @RichardG: is tweaking knobs while pulling off a heavy two handed piano part! I don‘t think you always need/want to tweak sounds while playing. So I don‘t think Clavia would consider this unlogic by default.

I think this has always been an issue for any board with knobs close to the keys.
In your example I can imagine it could happen, but it can always happen; and what if you need to switch or alter anything right after that part ?
Any solution is another problem I think : if you'd have a lid to cover the knobs, you can't do anything at all during that song when the lid is closed.
If there's a button which enables/disables all other knobs you'd have to be aware to press it before doing anything else or you'll be too late; it's an extra action.

My initial reaction was a bit tongue-in-cheek so hopefully you don't take it too serious. :)
But someone somewhere will always have a problem with whatever solution is chosen.
