sharing patches between Nord Keyboards
Greetings! A newbie here. I have a situation I hope y'all can help with. I have a Stage 2 EX. I have several patches that I have modified or created for a specific concert. My group is about to go to Spain to perform and we are renting equipment in Spain. All I know for certain is that it will be a NORD. I have not, as of yet, been able to find out which model. Is there a way to save the patches I have created and transfer them to this rental keyboard? If so, how? Thanks!

Yes, if it is a Nord Stage 2EX or 2 and if you have a laptop to bring for the trip. You need to download the Sound Manager from the NordKeyboards (.com) website. Save a backup copy of your keyboard’s internal programs to your laptop, then later upload that file from your laptop using Sound Manager’s restore function to the rented Nord. I have Nords in two locations and I do that all the time to transfer updates with newer patches I’ve created. Be aware it’ll take about an hour to load or “restore” your settings to the rented Nord. Do it the night before the gig or well before it. Good luck with the show!

Thanks copia! I appreciate the reply. After browsing this forum a while, I found a thread that spoke to this issue somewhat peripherally. I now get that this will only work if the rental keyboard is a Stage 2 or 2ex. Hopefully that’s what I’ll get. I’ll be taking my laptop and downloading manuals for whatever I might encounter. Thanks for your help!

One other note: Don't forget that if you get a Stage 2 you will only have 500MB of piano sample memory (not 1GB as in the 2EX), so you should create your backup file accordingly to be safe. I'm not sure how the restore process would go if the restore file exceeds the memory. Good luck!

Re: sharing patches between Nord Keyboards
I have a question. I’m a touring guitar tech that also takes care of two nord stage 2 ex keys for two of the guitar players. I travel with only one backup (same model). Is there a way to backup both of the different patches for each guy separately? Is there a way to store multiple patches in separate banks? So the backup would have a bank of patches for guitar 1 and another bank for guitar 2. This way I could have a functional backup for both players.

You can make 2 distinct full backups of each Ns2EX and name them differently, so that you can distinguish them when you restore them. Alternatively you can save set of patches as Bundles and load them where you want (in case you want more flexibility and don't have a lot of patches).

The Nord Sound Manager software allows you to either make a full backup copy of each instrument including sounds and system settings. You can keep those on a computer and play them back onto the backup instrument in case of need - but it will take some time, it's not a matter of seconds (if I remember well, it might take about 30 min. for a full backup to download - test this out!).
If you want to have most of the sounds of both instruments in one backup instrument for immediate use, it's more complicated:
- the system settings need to match - you can only have one set at the time (mainly a few sound related and MIDI settings);
- the piano samples and synth samples of both instruments need to match into the available storage space of the backup instrument;
- you will then save those Bundles maxpiano mentioned (one program bank each) and store them into different program banks; that's the easier part.

To add to the information provided above, the Nord Sound Manager will also output full lists of programs, NSMP samples, NPNO samples, and synth patches to make it a little easier to determine what is common between the two performance keyboards. Good luck to you.
