Setting balance for piano /organ /synth

Post by Eumel »

Hi folks,

is it somehow possible to move around the balance (left/right) for piano /organ /synth?

If not, this would be another proposal for the next generation of nord stage keyboards.

Greets

There is a way to do this, though it's not obvious. If you select the effect Autopan (A-Pan) and set the Rate/Tempo to zero, the Amount knob acts as a left-right pan. It's not perfect, it doesn't work if the Leslie is on, and if you use it on a stereo piano, you can't shift the left-right balance of the individual notes, instead it makes your whole piano sound mono and you can pan that.

If you need more than this, it's time to use the extra outputs and a mixer.

Edit: Should have mentioned I'm using a classic not a Stage 2 so I can't be sure everything works exactly the same.

Out of the same output? No. You can only apply the pan effect to whatever instrument is selected on the bottom of the effect column, so at maximum, 2 instruments (slot a and slot b with different instruments and effects). The option for precise control is to route the outputs out of 1 and 2 in stereo, and 3 and 4 in mono. Unless you want all 3 sources (organ, piano, synth) to be in stereo. Then you'll have to come up with something really tricky!
