Save and Save As, sometimes requires a reboot

Postby stopmakingsense » 27 Apr 2019, 11:23

Hi, is anyone else having this issue?... Nord Stage 3 compact 2.10

Sometimes when i make a lot of modifications to a sound, the Save / Save As button doesn't function, until I reboot.

I'm I missing something?

I've had no trouble saving programs customized from init presets using the save functionality. Can you describe which you're saving - a synth preset or a main preset, and your workflow? Is there a specific set of changes you can reliably do to cause this bug to trigger? Can you provide more context?

Thanks for asking 23skidoo.

When I worked in tech. support it was important to isolate exactly what would cause an issue.

Although I run into the issue frequently, I haven't yet isolated the exact circumstances. I will try to do so, in the coming days.

My workflow is all over the place right now. I've been on main user presets, making a lot of changes to everything, as I often fill both panels with custom sounds and effects that include multiple morphs and multiple sound engines. For instance I may click a B3 Patch out of Song mode add a string synth patch faded in via the wheel and put a electric piano on panel B with a synth to fade in with the wheel and aftertouch to activate vibrato. So I may be overloading the CPU with all the possible textures as I'm molding the sound.

I'll give more specific on what seems to cause inability to Save/Save As, in a reply in the next couple days.

Rebooting and saving less parameter changes at a time always seems to work.

Well if you're in song mode, I don't think Save/Save As works the same way, same in Live Mode. But I don't use either of those modes often so I can't be sure. Check to make sure you're not staying in one of them when trying to save?

Overloading the CPU isn't possible, the Nords are built to apply all of their parameters simultaneously and not glitch.

Good to know. I'll have to isolate what actions cause the glitch.

I have Isolated the issue.

The amp envelope velocity button on my particular keyboard is the culprit. I may be able to work around the issue, by adjusting the way I touch that button. This appears to be an issue just on my keyboard, not on other people's nords.

Nord tech. support has been excellent, and I continue to absolutely love the Stage 3 compact and Clavia.

Cool, good to know you’ve identified the problem! Thanks for posting the results! Do you plan to get it serviced?

I've got 11 months of warranty left, and the authorized service centers are 1.5 hour drive each way. I'm going to see how it goes, now that I know what the issue is.

Hard to part with it for any amount of time while getting that button's workings adjusted, cleaned or replaced. I'll also want to get around to backing up my sounds on the PC before any work gets done.

I'll probably get it fixed under warranty sooner or later.

Thanks for asking.

Follow up: I had the synth amp velocity button replaced, under warranty. Nord Tech. support handled things perfectly. They directed me to multiple certified Nord repair centers nearest to me. It's pretty rare for this type of button to fail, but they can be cleaned up or replaced if they do fail. My button went from flaky and affecting my ability to save programs, to not functioning at all. The shop replaced it and now it works like a charm. The only thing required by Nord and the Shop, were copies of my original receipt from the keyboard purchase. I'm 100% satisfied.
Absolutely, love the Nord Stage 3 Compact.
Not all keyboard manufactures survive to keep supporting, and developing the gear that we love so dearly. Look at ARP for instance.
So the inconvenience was minor, in the scheme of things.
Long live Clavia Nord! :-)
