I'm on a stage 3 compact. Page 35 of the manual. I'm trying to get into the list display of the 8x50 synth preset location view. I understand how the soft buttons work when you're in piano mode but I'm not getting it for synth mode.

The 8x50 presets are in the „User“ category under the appropriate soft button. If you haven’t saved any user synth presets of your own, the list will be empty.

Does that make sense, or am I misunderstanding your question?

I have the same problem and it’s driving me crazy. I think it has something to do with the new 2.x update. I can’t find any way to toggle between the synth preset categories (synth bass, lead etc.). Regular program toggling (between general synth, acoustic, etc), yes. But not within those synth presets. What gives? Also why are some stage models numbered starting with A01 and others at A11? I wonder if this is all update bugs.

Are you browsing synth presets using the dial in the synth section (and not the main dial) -- it is called SYNTH PRESET? Hold down shift to get into list mode, as indicated.

I'm not with my board right now, but IIRC you can use the button to the right of the SYNTH PRESET and/or the OSC 2 PITCH dial to change between modes. As it says in the change log: "Use the Osc 2 dial to change Preset Mode (User, Samp, Cat)." and "Synth Preset mode (User, Samp, Cat) can now be changed by pressing Shift + Mono/Legato." To jump categories in category mode, speed-dial the SYNTH PRESET.

Not a bug but a change since around 1.40 or thereabout. All newer versions uses the A:11 instead of A:01.

This was changed because you can now press the program buttons to directly access programs — e.g. „2“ and „5“ for Program 25.

You don’t have a Zero key, so 10, 20, 30, etc. cannot be selected. So the numbering was changed to 11-15, 21-25, etc.

Thanks everyone. So it seems the only way to jump between synth categories is to use the speed dial list knob? Not between category, user, and sample, but within the category section alone.

Yes. You can only browse categories in category mode...

Yes: in the synth section, the speed dial option (instead of the former list of categories to dial through) came with OS update 2.0 or 2.02, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong, though (as I was more satisfied with the categories list before, as well...).

NS3 OS 2.10:
- Changes to Synth Preset list: In Category mode, the Osc 1 dial functions as "CatSel" (Category Select). Used with Shift, this dial presents a list of all available categories.
