I like the silver for band setting. Very slight compression. When I first got the Electro 5, btw I use a pair of K10's, I boosted the highs and mid like above. On some live recordings it started sounding like a banjo. I have since played fairly flat, maybe a slight mid bump, and like it better. While not on a piano lead, I like instead to layer in a slight rhodes, synth or string sound with the volume pedal to control to fill out the sound.

But if you make it sound how you would like it to sound, this should be good

It is really hard for me to check the piano sound in the mix during soundcheck, when we are playing without soundengineer.
The problem is that i normally play behind speakertops and I have a wired body-pack for my in ears.

still not convinced to buy the NS3, but starting to be curious about the "bright" button. Yes, beside the seamless transition this will be a reason to upgrade :D

I have a nord grand, I think the configuration of the nord stage 2ex will be very similar for pianos, a month ago I played live https://youtu.be/nWl3t6jaa2s you can listen if you like the sound, just modify the equalizer a little, a little compression and A bit of review, I played with white grand, I have to have somewhere written down the configuration that I used that day, what I can tell you is that every time I play live I modify the configuration a little.

Nice work in the video, lovely playing!

I must say you have got the White sounding great there. Strong where needed without being too harsh and chirpy, and then stunningly beautiful when playing softer without sounding weak. A difficult balance to strike

I have a love hate relationship with the White, some days I will get an EQ that I think I'm digging and then another I just cant get happy with it. Would be interested to try your settings in comparison to mine and also what KB touch level you use also.

thank you for sharing the link, nice piano play. The White Grand sound very clear in my ears and I hear a lot of reverb.
I tried to find out your config on the White Grand. Was is something like this ?
Treble +10.0 dB
Mid +4.0 dB
Bass 0.0 dB
Compressor 3.0
Reverb stage 4.8

I have the same and i have been follow the latest Piano Poll and i dont no why most people are voting for the White Grand. Comparing the Royal grand the White sound a bit airy in my ears and a bit dull . i need to turn up de treble up to +11.0dB to have a pleasant sound.

the XR-18 got through a Behringer EP 2000 amplifier , the speakers are from JBL i think about 15inch and always play in stereo. NO subs.

Thank you very much for the positive comments colleagues :thanx:

This was the configuration, although the Royal Grand is selected, use the White Grand, in the in-ear monitors it did not have so much rever, it seems that the sound technician pintroduced more rever in the mix, the rest is as is

Re: Piano EQ settings

Hi,

interesting topic! I'm constantly playing around with EQ settings and never quite happy. I notice most of you boost certain freqs - is there a reason for this other than it sounds good to your ears? Especially I'm curious about the bass/middle boosts. I'm asking because I mostly cut freqs instead of boosting. I've found that I like the result most when I have it like this:

High: 0 to +5 dB

Middle: 0 OR -5db or more cut around 500-800 hz or something like that. This I find depends alot of the room you're in, the song you're playing and the sample used...

Bass: Almost always -10db

So I use alot of lower end cutting. I play like this at home (M-Audio BX5 monitors [cheapish]) but the settings are mostly for band play with Bs & Gtr. My instrument is Nord piano (the original), so the samples are the older ones..

EDIT:

So I took a closer look and looks like most of you boost highs more than the bass, so effectively thats just boosting highs but getting more kick? Still look like alot more bass heavy sounds than I like to use. I assume that you dont do any EQ from the main mixer board as you've already done that from the instrument? Interesting, ill try the EQs mentioned here :)

The reason I sometimes roll off bass response is that (a) my stage amplification is beefy, and (b) the bass player gives me the stink eye when I step all over his parts. Treble boost is to be heard over guitars and cymbals. It's quite different when it's just me playing.
I think I have gear issues ....

I feel a bit difficult to find proper eq settings with my Electro 6 and White Grand. I have pair of Yamaha DXR8 as PA speakers. How do you set EQ when playing alone? With headphones everything is fine but with PA speakers the mid range is unclear.
