Operating System Upgrades and Preserving Sounds

Post by gerardnorduser »

Hi Everybody,

I would really like to upgrade the OS on my Nord Stage. I am still running v2.26 for fear of losing the sounds we created in my band (I play for an American band named Wheatus).

I am preparing by doing some extensive house keeping of my Synth memory locations (renaming synth banks, saving copies of sounds to empty banks) trying to organize everything.

I am doing redundant program back ups in Sys Ex Librarian and Nord Stage Manager v2.00.

Can I expect this stuff to show up the way it should as far as memory locations and sounds in the latest OS and Stage Manager?

Is there anything I should be paying extra attention to that would really screw me up?

I often use layered clavs, wurlies, and pianos ( in dual panel mode) with considerable EQ adjustments. I am worried about the integrity of my piano module based programs ....will I loose these?

Here is the big question? CAN I DOWNGRADE BACK TO 0Sv 2.26 if I don't have the sounds as I had dialed them in originally.

I am talking over four records worth of songs here (including our yet to be released material).

Any advice, tips, or warnings would be very helpful.
Thanks for your time,
Gerard

Hi Gerard,

Hmm, I only had ver3 when I upgraded to the latest OS but had no problems at all.
Obviously Backups are a good idea ;-)
But actually, the programs and synth patches are not affected when you upgrade.
However, they ARE affected when you change the Piano Sounds so if you want the more recent piano sounds, first of all make sure to have the new sounds in the same slots, that is, change them one by one making sure to maintain the same structure. It took me a while, or your sound is just SILENCE if it uses an empty slot.

The newest version 4.04 however brought about a change of the Delay effect which changed one sound I had with loads of delay. However, you can in the SOUND menu switch back to the CLASSIC Delay behaviour and then it worked for me.

Downgrading, hmm, I don´t see why that should be a problem but never tried, maybe someone did.
But with 99% chance I would say there shouldn't be any problem. In particular with a double backup.
I consider the separation of OS, Patches and PIANO-SAMPLES quite good at the nords.

Hope you will suceed!!

cheers, Johannes
btw, Wheatus?' I vaguely recall some college kind-of band of that name several years ago having a hit here in Germany...??!
