NS2 "Rich Piano" for NS3
NS2 "Rich Piano" for NS3
Hello everyone and thanks in advance for reading this. I've had a NS2 Compact for years and recently got a NS3 Compact. My favorite piano voice on the NS2 is called "Rich Piano", but I can't find anything comparable on the NS3. Has anyone out there tried to replicate the "Rich Piano" voice on another board? If so, can you share your process? Mike

The closest thing you'll find should be coping all parameters from a NS2 (which still have the patch) manuallly one by one on NS3. If you don't know or remember them, then you can ask someone who have NS2 and ask he/she.
Take note of the all parameters, samples and piano modules settings that are used and write manually theses parameters on NS3.
That doesn't mean that will be exactly like NS2, because the board sounds a little different from each other, but will be the close you will get.

Thank you. I'm trying that and making some progress. It's getting close...

Doe anyone know if I can use the sample editor to capture the "rich Piano" voice of the stage 2 and convert it to a Stage 3 sample? I'm going to try playing around with the sample editor, but if someone has a step by step process that would be great

If you try to replicate all the parameters (as well as using the same samples of the NS2) would be better than resampling, I think.
You can only use the sample editor to load wav files and produce a single layer sample.

Well the sample editor is still not NS3 ready. Does anyone think the "sample converter" might work for this? If so, any tips for configuring this? Still not as happy with the replication process and prefer the voice on the NS2...

It is correct that Sample Editor does not at the present time generate v3 Nord sample format files, but don't let this scare you. Latest Nord Sound Manager versions will convert those files (after asking for permission) during load process. The conversion utility is now built into NSM.

PS -- there are a several threads available in this forum which can offer you detailed specific advice on creating your own samples from scratch. Basically, you'll want to first author one or more sequences which play notes in desired sampling interval ascending from bottom range to top, normalize sequence velocities, the record the resulting audio to a .wav file. NSE will slice, dice and automap it for you after you specify starting note and sampling interval.
