NS 3 C - synth engine activates randomly

Postby thomasw-dk » 03 Nov 2019, 20:17

Hi forum members,
i am following this forum for a couple of years and it was one of the reasons why i in April this year purchased my first Nord, a NS 3C.
Great instrument and i am enjoying every time i am playing it.
Today i observed a strange behavior of the synth engine what made me posting for the first time. ;-)

Under playing piano or organ sounds (piano engine / organ engine ) with the synth engine OFF the synth engine starts to turn ON randomly and shuts OFF again after a couple of seconds.
It is independent from how hard i hit the keys.
The NS 3 works beside of that perfectly fine, i haven`t observed any compromises to sound or function.
And i can switch the synth engine On and OFF manually.

Anybody observed the same and have an idea what it could be? A loose connection maybe?

Thanks!

....looks like the problem is solved.
I found out that i has something to do with the surface the stage i standing on.
No problems on a standard keyboard stand or table where the board is standing on the dedicated rubber feet.
I used a uneven surface which was not supporting the bottom of the board evenly. Looks like that was the reason.
Maybe that information is somehow useful.

I almost every gig hit the velocity switch when doing piano and organ wipes . This will cause the synth engine to flash on and off for a few seconds . No issue just my clumsy fingers..

i must tell you that it is unfortunately not solved. Just the slightest touch on the ARP RUN or KBH HOLD button (not pressing the button...just touching it and moving it a bit back and forth) will make the buttons activate for a second.
and by the way i am facing the same issue with the shift button not be able to exit from the split menu as you can read i another thread.
I will contact the distributor for danmark, unfortunately the shop where i bought my stage went bankrupt some weeks ago.
Comments are welcome...it helped already.
Thanks, Thomas

quick update and maybe useful for some of you facing similar problems now or in the future:
I got my board fixed by the local tech support for Nord here in Copenhagen. They changed both SHIFT, ARP RUN, HOLD and PAGE SELECT buttons under guarantee.
Now it seems to work without any issues. Hope it stays like that.
The technician had just received a bunch of buttons and was not too surprised by the faulty buttons !!!!

Sadly Nord never answered my mails that i sendt via the contact page. I finally contacted the Danish distributor in Norway who was very helpful.

I had a similar problem on my NS3c but it involved the effects selection cycling at high speed. Then it was reacting to what looked like random MIDI commands. Since it showed up at Halloween, I surmised I had picked up a ghost in the machine.

I contacted Pablo who suggested it might be a stuck button switch, but it wasn't. It turned out to be dodgy power. Now that I'm feeding it cleaner power, the problem has disappeared, never to return. It's worth checking your power as well.
I think I have gear issues ....

Glad you got it sorted out.
I think when you write to Nord, the mail will go to your national distributur, and not directly to Nord in Sweden.
And the danish distributor (Luthman) are bankruptcy as well, as them and 4sound Denmark had the same owner after what I have read in the local news.

Tech support requests submitted via Nord's webform go directly to Nord and are auto-cc'd to the tech support rep of the country of origin, who is primarily responsible for generating a response. If the Danish distributor was/is having those kinds of issues, this will surely explain the lack of response from them. It will probably have taken some time for Nord to become aware of that situation -- no doubt the Danish distributor was trying to hide any difficulties they may have been having.
